Pyro 1914 Mercer Raceabout, 1/32, C452-125

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of it's kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. This car is an exact reproduction of the car owned by Ralph T. Buckley, owner of the Antique Auto Shop of New Jersey. This shop specialized in rebuilding Mercer automobiles to factory new condition. The car was part of the Gene Zimmerman display of over 150 such cars in Holiday West PA. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet'. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Cleveland Curtiss SBC-4 Helldiver Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-80

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Cragstan Wooden Motorized Electric Boat Model - From 1950s Japan, 1331

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Hand-painted operating 9.5 inch long ready-to-run wooden boat with metal fittings in the original box. This boat is in near-mint condition and appears to have never been run or played with. The only flaw is some minor missing paint at the front and back bottom of the hull. The box is rare and is complete and grades 'very good++'. The original tissue packing paper is included. The boat is all hardwood with a natural stained finish deck, white upper hull and red below the waterline and with a yellow deck house with a red roof. There is a life ring as well as metal hand rails, horn vents and front light (non-operating). The capstan is the on/off switch. Inside the boat is in mint, factory condition. I believe that batteries have never been installed. The large motor, wiring, universal joint, battery holders and contacts and prop shaft all appear as new. Underneath there is an all metal prop and adjustable rudder, again in new condition.

Ranco Models Kellett YG-1B (XR-2) Autogyro, 1/42

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+++

Sold

Large (17 inch LOA) model of this 1930s craft. The ship had no ailerons, rudder or elevator. Directional control was through a pivoting rotor head. Rotor blades folded for storage. The KD-1 made the worlds first autogyro roof-top landing in May of 1935 at the US Post Office in Philadelphia. The plans say this is the XR-2 and YG-1B. The plans certainly look like the YG-1B Army Craft; the YG-1B was modified with a constant speed rotor and became the YG-1C; it was then redesignated XR-2. This craft is also known as a KD-1; the model will built any of the three. Never started. Complete with all parts, plans and unused tube of glue.
