It is either still in the internally sealed factory bag or has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. This box has some of my favorite Jo Kotula boxart. Kotula originally did 1930s covers for the magazine 'Model Airplane News' and later the Aurora box art of the late 1950s. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

Airmodel Messerschmitt Bf-261 (Me-261) Ultra-Long Range Aircraft - Bagged, 1/72, AM-067

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Bagged

Sold

High quality multi-media kit of this rare subject. Features high quality vacform main airframe parts, high-definition cast details (pros, wheels, gear struts, spinners, tail wheel strut, tail wheel, instrument panel, seat, control column and much more) and clear canopies. The vacuform parts have fine recessed details and are higher quality than many injection molded kits. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions with aircraft history. P.1067 was the designation for the design that would fly the Olympic Torch non-stop from Berlin to Tokyo for the 1940 Olympic games. The specialized, long range monoplane eventually took the name Bf-261 when V1 and V2 were built. Power was provided by two DB 606A-1/B-1 coupled engines, each of which was a pair of DB601 liquid-cooled mounts driving a very large four bladed propeller. There was a crew of 5 and bunks were provided. The work slowed as hostilities picked up. Without it's intended mission, the 261 was considered for ultra-long range reconnaissance over the Atlantic Ocean, but the difficulty of fixing proper defensive guns caused engineers to give up the project. The three aircraft were used for performance calibration flights, some of very long range (almost 2,800 miles). V3 did see action in very long range military reconnaissance. No further aircraft were built.

Airmodel Focke-Wulf FW-191 Medium Bomber - Bagged, 1/72, AM-051

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Bagged

Sold

Very high quality multi-media kit of a rare subject. The kit consists of vacuform main airframe parts with very fine recessed panel lines, clear canopies and resin details. The vacform parts are of higher quality than many injection molded kits. The resin parts are of very high quality also and include props, engines, wheels, main gear struts, tail wheel strut, tail wheel and cockpit seats. The kit has not been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, plans, paint and marking guide, specifications, actual aircraft photos and aircraft history as well as drawing of the FW-191C. The FW-191 was Focke-Wulf's response to a winter 1939/40 Bomber 'B' RLM specification for a 373 mph medium bomber that could carry 8,820 lbs of bombs to any part of the British Isles from bases in France or Norway. In July of 1940, four firms submitted their proposals; the Arado Ar-340, Dornier Do-317, Fw-191 and Junkers Ju-288. The Ju-288 and the FW-191 were selected for full development. A shocking condition of the Focke-Wulf contract was that the 191 had to be produced with electrical systems throughout - no hydraulic or similar system were allowed. This earned the design it's nickname, 'The Flying Power Station' or 'Fliegendes Kraftwerk'. V1 and V2 were built and flight tested without the required Jumo 222 power plants. With the BMW 801A radials, the aircraft was underpowered and with the weight from the electrical system, overall performance sub-standard. None of this reflected badly on the design, and Focke-Wulf made repeated requests for changes and the correct engines. Finally, permission was given to suspend work on V3-V5 and make changes to V6. V6 flew well in the spring of 1943 on down-rated 222 engines providing only 90% of the promised output. But as early as mid 1942 the prospects for this 2,500 hp class engine were bleak due to a shortage of proper materials. In the end, this killed the B Bomber design. Focke-Wulf proposed other engines and combinations for the 191, but by that time Germany had other priorities and V6 was the last FW-191 built.

Comet Taylorcraft - 54 inch Wingspan Flying Model for RC, 3505

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

Sold

NOTE: builder kit only. Please read carefully. 1970s very large scale kit with 54 inch wingspan. For rubber or gas free flight or RC (radio control). This is a reissue of a much older Comet kit. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high-quality balsa pre-cut stringers, balsa printwood, detailed full size plans, building instructions, wheels, rubber and tissue. The model has not been started. NOTE: missing prop and thrust button. Plans are complete but have closed tears. Most parts have been neatly cut out. Some parts (mainly ribs) were missing; new balsa in the correct thickness has been furnished and all missing parts have been traced on this new balsa. Inventoried with all other parts (original and traced) and includes plans. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Revell 1914 Stutz Bearcat Highway Pioneers, 1/32, H38

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1952 early issue molded in yellow plastic. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.
