Hobby-Time Sealed Factory Case of 12 Bell XV-3 US Army Convertiplane, 1/43, 901-98c

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

$545

This is a factory-sealed case of 12 Hobby-XV-3 model kits from the 1950s. Hobby-Time shipped them to the address on the box, and I purchased them from the man at that address. The case has never been opened and is still securely sealed top and bottom with the factory tape. The box is in 'excellent' condition. The actual model kits (12 inside the case!) are the one and only issue of this amazing aircraft. This is a very nice kit for that time with fine raised panel lines, interior detail and molded in gloss silver and clear.

Consolidated Model Engineering Bay Ridge Pacer by Sal Tabi With Liquids - 53 Inch Wingspan

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$165

Rare 1941 model and even rarer in unbuilt, complete condition. The Pacer was a Sal Tabi gas free flight design but can be easily converted to R/C and electric power. This model came from the estate of a very active & particular early aircraft kit collector. It is factory-new inside features quality balsa printwood, factory-cut-to-shape balsa blocks, stringers and spars, plywood firewall, hardwood parts (some factory cut and routed), silkspan covering material, a set of Trexler Balloon Wheels (still in the original box), two pages of detailed instructions and superb full-size plans. It even includes the liquids advertised on the box top - two sealed tins of dope and color. Never started and complete. The Pacer, like many other early gas aircraft, was designed to climb rapidly to maximum altitude then enter a very stable glide and 'Sniff For Thermals'- the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol (with a clever cabin) style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft.

TMHK Picnic Jr - 45.6 Inch Wingspan R/C Aircraft by Tokyo Mokei Models Inc

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$395

Very, very rare- contains traces of the element 'unobtainium.' There is no internet or known auction history of one of these kits changing hands. Purchased new by a US Navy officer in about 1961 in Tokyo, Japan. He equipped himself nicely for a future R/C hobby upon his return to the states, but never built this kit. Features a large (1160 mm) wingspan and is specifically designed for R/C flight on a .9 to 1.5 size gas engine. This was a deluxe and highly prefabricated kit for that time with very high quality wood parts, of which 90% or more are completely cut out with the part number stamped in ink on each one. Woods are hardwood, plywood and balsa. Many of the parts are still held together with the unique color-tinted clear tape from this era of Japanese modeling. Other cut and shaped parts are still sealed in a plastic bag with a 'Picnic' header. This kit has sheeted fuselage sides which are also completely cut out. There is a sealed bag of hardware, sealed balloon wheels, plenty of silkspan-style covering material, fully formed wire landing gear and of course a very large set of actual size plans that includes R/C equipment placement guides. The kit has never been started. Some parts are still in the factory sealed bags and others are still factory taped as they were at the factory. The loose parts have been inventoried all present. Includes plans.

Robbe Norderney Survey Ship With 1036 Fittings Set - 49 Inches Long For R/C Or Static Display, 1/25, 1035

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$569

Very rare, and even rarer with the important fittings kit. This was Robbe's flagship model and was around $800 with the optional ship's fittings kit which is included. This full-scale model is designed for radio control operation with two props and rudders and provides great maneuverability even in rough water. The beautiful and huge hull is one piece molded ABS plastic and all other parts are pre-fabricated (die-cut) of wood and plastic. Includes hull, mast, funnel and small parts, die-cut decks, superstructure and crane parts, die-cut main frames and deck beams, clear glazing, double rudder system, R/C fitting set with tillers and pushrods, 35mm diameter screws, rubber rubbing strip, rails, anchor winch parts, optional fittings set and more. This example is never touched. It has not been started and all the parts are still exactly as the factory shipped them. The ones that were sealed are still sealed and the few that were not have been inventoried complete. With all plans/instructions. Unless you specify otherwise, this kit will be shipped in the huge and sturdy original box with paper covering the identification label and photo. If you choose to have it boxed again, extra shipping will apply. Please note, this may not ship to other countries who have size limited on postage because the box is 52.3 x 18.2 x 14.2 inches. Comet Zipper A Class A Gas Free Flight Aircraft With 32 Inch Wingspan, T12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$189

Very rare, especially never started and complete. This is the smaller version of the famous Comet Zipper, the "A" variant made to run in the smaller Class "A" Category. Kit features traditional balsa wood and tissue construction, detailed full size plans, high quality printwood, die-cut plywood motor mounts, stripwood, metal motor mounts, a large wax bag of still factory-sealed hardware, full-size plans in very good condition and covering issue. The kit has not been started and the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Cleveland Ryan FR-1 Fireball With Liquids 30.75 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Aircraft, 1/16, SF-92

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$169

Very rare, especially in untouched condition and with the fluids. This is the 1946 Deluxe 'large box' issue of this incredibly well detailed flying model and it even comes with the five glass bottles of Cleveland-labeled liquids - cement and colored dope behind the blue cut out display included by Cleveland just to 'show them off.' The four larger bottles are still factory sealed in the brown paper and tape! The one smaller bottle was never sealed. Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' models in museum scale of 1/16 were very complete and this one is no exception. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, fully formed thrust button, prop blades, main and nose wheels, balsa blocks and sheet wood, other wood stock, covering material, clear canopy material, highest quality plans and more. Never started and inside it is as it left the factory. No parts are cut out. I have inventoried the kit and it is complete with 'excellent' plans. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Cleveland 1930 Howard Pete Racer - Balsa Flying Aircraft, 1/16, SF18

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$125

Dated 1933 on the plans. This model came from a long-time collector who purchased this model new in October of 1955 from Cleveland direct. It was even factory-packed with pages of the newspaper "Cleveland Plain Dealer" dated June 29, 1955. This is a 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, sheet wood, pre-drilled nose block, fully finished spinner, thrust button & wheels, metal stock, rigging material, completely formed prop blades, covering material, highest quality plans and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with everything present. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. Comet Curtiss Robin With Comet Glue and Banana Liquid - 48 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Aircraft, P-4

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$210

Dated 1935. Very rare. This kit is almost never found and even less in this condition. includes the never-seen sealed tube of very colorful Comet Cement and a glass jar of Comet brand Banana Liquid. Comet made a total of three different Robin kits and this 'Giant Wingspan' version is by far the largest. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with quality balsa printwood sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wheels, spars and wood stock, wood blocks and dowels, beautiful machine cut 9" prop, a factory-sealed envelope of hardware, decals, two colors of tissue, an insignia sheet and detailed, full-size plans with building instructions. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Carl Goldberg Models 1/2A Blazer 40 inch Wingspan - .049 Free Flight Model Airplane, G1-250

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$125

Large parasol free flight model for .049 power by one of the pioneers and leaders in model aviation. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Revell Convair B-36 Giant Bomber - (small box) Pre 'S' True Second Issue, 1/184, H205-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM-

$379

Very rare, second issue from 1956 that is correct in every way. Unusual narrow height Pre 'S' box has the full artwork and the rare one-piece stand arm. The box is in investment-grade 'near mint-' condition. Color and gloss is like new, all four corners are perfect, no price tags or marks from tags, there is no tape - not even marks from the original factory sealing tape. There are no tears, tape or otherwise, creases, fading, stains or dents. The only flaws are slight edge wear and a 'light' spot just behind the foreground engine that you can see in the photo if you look hard. Has early 2nd issue stand with the two-piece stand arm. Revell very quickly replaced the faulty one-piece with this design. The correct instructions showing this early stand and the decal sheet includes the stand decal. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, 'excellent' condition decals and instructions. The factory clear small-part 'krinkle' bag is present but is split open, hence the 100% inventory. The first issue of this kit looks exactly like this on the outside, but inside it has the three-prong one piece stand and instructions that reflect that and an updated parts list. The third issue of this kit shared the same part number but is in a taller box, has greatly simplified artwork, the two-piece stand arm and instructions that reflect that change. For a long time it was thought that all 'full' box art versions had the one-piece stand arm; that is not true. Revell changed the design so quickly that some were issued with the change.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$245

The plans were signed by the world-famous stunt & speed pilot Betty Skelton on 9-23-51 in Rapid City South Dakota. The personal note and signature are big and beautiful. This is appropriate, since this Berkeley kit is a model of her exact aircraft! Also included is a news paper biographical article and photo of Skelton. The actual kit is large-scale and highly detailed. Originally designed for .19 to .33 gas powered control line, it can be converted to electric power. Features precision die cut parts in balsa and plywood, fully finished and slotted leading and trailing edges for both wings, all planking and sheeting material, a beautiful metal cowl and metal wheel pants, fully finished main and tail wheels, completely formed landing gear struts and brace, extensive hardware packet, covering tissue, three huge decal sheets with every red stripe and red area included, one small 'The Little Stinker' decal sheet and beautiful plans with instructions. Never started and complete. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.
