Large scale (1/125) 1976 issue that is well detailed and measures over 20 inches long when assembled. U-99 was one of the most active and successful early boats under the command of Otto Kretschmer. She survived 7 active patrols but was sunk on the 8th patrol on March 17, 1941. 40 of the crew survived the sinking, including Kretschmer, who accounted for the greatest tonnage of shipping sunk by any commander in WWII.

This model is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch long model sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes direction, dives, surfaces, and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic as was a major break-through in it's day (about 1960). The high price and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly and operation made for a short production run. The model worked, and worked well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. to make matters worse, ITC abandoned the plastic model business shortly after this kit came out. The box top is 'Very Good+' with nice color, four solid, original corners and no missing litho. There is general wear and light staining as shown. Inside, the kit is absolutely mint. All plastic parts that were factory sealed are still sealed in the factory bags and all of the bags are still factory stapled to the box. The hull 1/2s were never sealed and are in mint condition. The blue display cardboard is all present and 'excellent.' Instructions are 'excellent' with the typical light yellowing and the decals are mint and still sealed in their plastic bag. It would be hard to find a better example of this rare kit.

The 540K was produced from 1937 to 1939 by Daimler-Benz and was priced at about $11,000 - a King's ransom in those days. The supercharger boosted horsepower to 180 and the car traveled easily at 105 mph. Features rolling chassis detail, detailed engine, complete interior, removable soft top or boot and removable hood. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Please note that a small end of the chassis molded-on steering linkage has broke off but the part is present. It is a clean break and an easy repair.
