Aurora Atomic Submarine Nautilus SS571, 1/242, 500-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$148

Rare, Brooklyn-produced early 1950s U-Ma-Kit. This was Aurora's first naval model. Molded in the correct glossy very dark gray plastic. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Even includes the original factory packing tissue and a small, unopened metal tube of glue. The box looks better than the 'good-' rating but is graded as such because there are closed tears in the box top on the left, light stains and general moderate wear throughout.

Aurora USS Skipjack Submarine Phota-Scope Issue, 1/228, 614-180

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$125

Rare. 1970 issue featuring the Phota-Scope. In place of the nuclear reactor, Aurora put a tube that has a magnifying lens at the top and a film transparency of a submarine interior at the bottom. So when you lift the hatch, you looked through the magnifier to see the inside of the sub. It was an interesting idea, and Aurora extended Phota-scope to some tank kits around the same time. The kit has never been started. Inventoried with all parts, magnifying lens and tube, phota-scope picture, decals and correct instructions present. The box looks much better than the 'good' rating but is graded as such because there is a closed tear in the box top at the sail of the sub.

Model Shipways Bluenose1921 Fishing Schooner - Laser Cut Wood and Metal Plank-On-Frame Ship Kit, 1/64, 2130

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$129

Very highly detailed and intricate ship kit. Measures 32 inches long and 26.5 inches high when assembled. Castings are in solid brass, Britannia metal or carved wood where appropriate. Includes full size plans and heavily illustrated instruction book. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions.

Heller Boeing 707 - Air France ' Chateau de Versailles', 1/125, 700

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$125

Very rare, from the early 1960s One of two box versions of this kit. Early Heller issue with fantastic artwork. Early Heller kits had some wonderful engineering (such as in the Etendard IV and DC-8) and this model is no exception. The model was designed to minimize painting and is molded in white, gray, clear and includes black rubber tires. The fuselage lower section is molded in gray along with the wings and engines, and the upper fuselage is in white. There is a sheet of colorful Air France decals in very good condition. The landing gear and gear doors can be positioned up or down. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Even includes original glue capsule and instructions for the glue.

Revell DC-7 Flagship American Airlines One-Piece Stand Arm Pre -S Issue, 1/122, H219-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$210

Rare 1954/55 Pre-S true issue with the fantastic artwork of a DC-7 at the moment just before touchdown. Please note, this is the correct first release with the one-piece plastic stand arm and instructions that illustrate this. Also, the main gear axles are separate parts on this issue. On the second issues the gear struts were modified and the axles were moved to the wheels, and the stand arm was changed to two plastic parts because the one-piece stand arm was fragile and in use it broke easily. Very few were made as Revell quickly corrected this weakness. Correctly molded in gloss silver and clear and a large, colorful decal sheet. Inside, the kit has never been started. I has been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Instructions are 'near mint' with the detailed American Airlines route map on the back. Decals are 'excellent' and flat with no curl and light yellowing.

O-Lin Fleet Submarine (Gato Class, Ex-Varney)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$289

Very, very rare investment piece for the advanced collector. From the late 1940s. This is the first one I have had in 20 years of dealing with kits and among the finest condition I have seen. Molded in the correct, gloss olive-drab plastic with a two piece hull, fore and aft decks, sail and detail parts and full instructions and the correct stand marked 'FLEET SUBMARINE.' The kit has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with all parts and 'Very Good++' condition instructions. The box is graded 'excellent' (not perfect!) and has very nice color and gloss, four solid, original corners, no price tags or tag tears, no tape except for the remains of clear tape on the two long sides where the box was factory sealed, no tape tears and no box tears, fades or missing litho. Wear includes general light shelf wear as shown and some corner and edge wear. NOTE: must be shipped insured. This kit has a fascinating history. These molds may well be the oldest production ship kit in US plastic modeling history. The kit started as the Varney Fleet Sub in the mid 1940s. It is widely believed that it was the very first USA all-plastic construction kit of a military vessel. Varney produced an all plastic aircraft kit at the same time, the PT-17. It is the #1 candidate for the first plastic airplane kit in the USA. Varney was a famous manufacture of model trains, first O then a leader in HO models. The two new additions did not sell very well - remember, the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' had yet to be issued, so the boom in modeling had not occurred. Varney soon sold the molds for the Fleet Sub and the PT-17 to O-Lin (along with the molds for a fantastic multi-media kit with a wooden hull and plastic fittings, the Varney PT Boat ). O-Lin was a joint venture by Paul Lindberg and Mr. Olsen. O-Lin successfully issued the PT Boat (the PT Boat was given an injection molded hull and deck), PT-17 Stearman and Fleet Sub but modified the molds for the Sub. The original Varney kit had a solid, one-piece black hull and gray fittings. O-Lin engineers created a two-piece hull that provided a hollow hull and made from the same shot of plastic as the fittings. The 'Lin' in O-Lin, Paul Lindberg, was already well known for his publication of articles and plans for flying model aircraft in some of the leading aviation publications in the 1940/50s.

Otaki Panzer IV German Tank Motorized With Working Gun - (Type IV), 1/45, OV-22

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$139

Very, very rare. From the early 1960s. Has the unique combination of motorized drive wheels and flexible treads and a firing gun. The gun fires a plastic bullet via a spring and trigger hidden in and below the barrel. The box is the high-gloss early style with attractive artwork. It is in excellent condition with like new color and gloss, no price tags or tape and no marks from either, four solid corners, no tears and no fading. The flaws are light shelf wear and light creasing. A very nicely detailed kit for that time and appears to be well engineered. Features a factory sealed bag of hardware including all-metal gear box, wire, motor mount, switches, battery racks, shafts, spring, screws and more. Please note that Otaki did not furnish the motor, which is recommended to be the common TKK Mabuchi RE-14. The tank is molded in dark olive drab and has the drive on the rear drive wheels which moves the caterpillar treads. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Amazingly, the treads are 100% intact, completely flexible and are still bound by the factory rubber bands! NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

Shizukyo US Army M26 Pershing Motorized With Light Up Gun Barrel, 1/30, TS-203-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$385

Very, very rare and a true investment piece. Shizukyo started in the 1960s but was out of business before the end of the decade. This kit is likely from the early 60s. Big scale kit is well molded and detailed for that time and features motorized operation on the rear drive wheels to move the treads and a good size flashing red bulb at the end of the barrel that 'fires' the gun. Features Tkk Mabuchi RE25 motor that is still in the original old-style TKK box, complete with printed plastic wrapper and sealed accessory bag, all metal gear box, a sealed bag with numerous pieces of metal hardware for motorized operation, wire, a red electric light bulb and more. The actual kit is molded in a black or very, very dark green plastic. Inside, the kit has never been touched. All the smaller parts are still in the factory sealed bags with color headers. All the small metal parts, glue and bulb are still in sealed bags. The only parts that were not sealed are the upper and lower hull, upper and lower turret and gear box. The instructions are in 'excellent++' condition and the decals are still in the sealed bag and 'very good' with moderate yellowing being the only flaw. Amazingly, the treads are in 'near mint' condition and completely intact - they are still very flexible! NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

Shizukyo Leopard 105MM Cannon West German New Type Tank, 1/50, TS-203-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$145

Very, very rare and an excellent investment. Shizukyo started in the 1960s but was out of business before the end of the decade. This kit is likely from 1965 and is well detailed for that time and features motorized operation on the rear drive wheels. Features Tkk Mabuchi RE15 motor that is still in the original old-style TKK box, complete with printed plastic wrapper and sealed accessory bag, all metal gear box, a sealed bag with numerous pieces of metal hardware for motorized operation, wire and more. The actual kit is molded in a black or very, very dark green plastic. Inside, the kit has never been touched. All the smaller parts are still in the factory sealed bags with color headers. All parts but the upper and lower hull halves, motor and treads are still factory sealed, and the biggest bag has a nice paper header. The sealed gear box metal is shiny like brand new. Amazingly, the treads are in perfect condition and still 100% flexible. They are held together by the factory rubber bands! The instructions are in 'near mint' condition and the decals are 'near mint' also. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

Rest Models Heinkel He-112 V6 Kanonenvogel Spanish Civil War Ground Attack Aircraft, 1/48, RM4809

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$199

Very, very rare, superb model and the only kit of this subject in any scale. Features very highly detailed cockpit, excellent landing gear and detailed wells, separately molded ailerons, wing flaps and rudder, optional opened or closed cockpit hatch, painting guide and full Condor Legion markings. The kit consists of very finely cast parts in high definition resin with recessed panel lines, many PE parts and film instruments. The fuselage is cast in one part with the opening for the fuselage where the wing goes. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. He-112 Prototype V6 had a fascinating history during the Spanish Civil War. It was specially modified with a 20mm cannon firing through the screw axis. It was initially flown by 'private' Luftwaffe pilots and saw significant action. However, Wilhelm Balthasar destroyed an armored train with the V6 on March 16, 1937. The fact that made this amazing is the Balthasar was an observer in an He-45C. When he knew of the attack, he convinced the commander that he was an expert pilot and begged to take the V6 up to attack the train. On his way back he destroyed a tank and won an award for his efforts. He was later appointed commander of an experimental department consisting of three He-45C and the one He-112V6. The task of this unit was recon, artillery spotting and ground attack. During these flights the V6 destroyed more tanks and was very successful.

Frog SE 210 Caravelle Air France, 1/96, F357

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$159

Rare, big scale kit from the 1950s. The box is nice with four solid corners but has creasing and wear as shown. Inside, the kit is molded in the correct clear and silver with the correct big Frog base that was unique to these larger kits. Even the original glue capsule is included. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. As often happened, the decals were folded at the factory; that and age have caused some minor lifting on the decals.

UPC South Goodwin Lightship / Trinity House Lightship - (ex Frog), 1/109, 5012-300

UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

Still factory sealed but has damage as shown. 1999 reissue of the 1964 Revell kit with a Monogram box. Very nicely detailed 1/48 scale kit that contains both models and display stands as well as collector's patches. This kit is a fine example of 'mold swapping'. Originally Revell cut the molds and issued this kit in the 1960s. Then Revell and Monogram merged, and the kit was reissued under the Monogram name.

Cleveland Playboy Senior Class C Gas Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, GP-5017

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$225

70 inch wingspan class 'C' gas free-flight model airplane. Cleveland entered the 1930s gas model market with the famous Playboy series. The design is so solid and popular that it is still a favorite at meets today (Like SAM - Society of Antique Modelers) where free-flight competitions are still held. Cleveland was late to introduce these kits (1939), but they wanted to ensure that the quality and performance was there. It appears that there were three aircraft in the Playboy line - the Baby, Junior and Senior. The model has not been started and is in exceptional condition. Whoever buys it will be the second owner; the first lives in town with me. The parts are inventoried 100% complete and includes covering tissue and 'excellent' never-used plans. Please NOTE: that there is some bug damage to the issue paper and very tiny bit to the edge of the plans. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
