Comet North American P-51D Mustang with Vacuform Canopy and Spinner and Glue - 24 Inch Wingspan, 3901-298

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Large scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using modern tiny and light servos and receivers. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with completely formed and finished leading and trailing wing edges, high-quality, die-cut balsa printwood, balsa stripwood and spars, clear (and in perfect condition) vacuform canopy and spinner, fully formed wooden wheels, rubbber motor, scale wood prop, insignia, covering tissue and excellent, large full size plans/instructions. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Sterling Albatros DII-A (D-II) - 27 3/4 Inch Wingspan Flying RC Model, E9

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

27.75 inch wingspan kit for RC, CO2, free flight, control line or non-flying detailed scale kit. This kit has minor, neat assembly. The spinner, wheel halves and machine gun halves have been cut out, and one wheel and one machine gun halves assembled to professional quality. There is no other assembly. Inventoried complete with all parts, plans and decals present. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line.

Golden Age is a high quality company committed to reissuing classic stick and tissue kits and plans from the 1930s Golden Age of flying models. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Ace Whitman USS Seadragon SS194 Submarine (Sargo Class) - Balsa Ship Model Kit, 1/169, 2994

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Rare, large scale 22 inch long hollow display model likely from the 1940s. It builds up with hull bulkheads and stringers and is intended to be tissue or silk covered, although it would be much wiser to either cover it with thin balsa or plank it like a plank-on-frame ship model. The photos (on the back of the box and on the plans) of the built model are impressive and realistic; no doubt, you can make an incredible, almost one-of-kind kit from it. However, there is a great deal of scratch building expected, which is typical of kits from that time. It is certainly not recommended for beginners. The builder should be highly experienced with stick and tissue methods and scratchbuilding fittings and more.

Otaki Aero Spacelines Guppy 201, 1/144, OT-2-11-1000

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Classic oversize-lifting cargo aircraft. A very well molded kit featuring all fine recessed panel lines, rotating props, full landing gear, a display stand and full decals including fuselage stripes. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Guppy could handle a 60 foot yacht, helicopter, fighter aircraft, spacecraft sections or other odd cargo. The Guppy was originally built in 1967 and successfully logged hundreds of thousands of miles.

Flyline Models 1929 Velie Monocoupe - 22 inch Wingspan RC/Free Flight or Rubber Model, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

This kit was sold new in 1974 and purchased direct from Flyline; there are even a few letters with advertisement flyers enclosed for other Flyline kits. Made for rubber free flight, but easily converted to co2 power or electric RC with today's light and tiny servos & receivers. Flyline Models was a manufacturer out of Fairfax, Virginia USA. The models are known for their high quality. The kit contains full size detailed plans, separate, detailed instructions, engine cylinder materials, high quality printed balsa sheets, strip and spar stock, decals, finished wheels, rubber motor, hardware and more. There has been no assembly but NOTE: some ribs and bulkheads have been neatly cut out to 'professional' quality. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag. The other parts have been inventoried complete with all paperwork. Flyline Models operated from a mailing address of 10643 Ashby Place, Fairfax Virginia and had a very high quality, extensive line of beautiful stick and tissue models for R/C and free flight - many of them true scale. I believe it was operated by Herb Clukey. If you have more information, please let me know so I can update this.

Cleveland Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat Master Issue - Balsa Flying Airplane - (F4F3), 1/16, SF-83

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. There are several issues, and this was the most deluxe one in the 'Master' box with Wildcat artwork. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete for that time and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, other wood stock, completely turned nose, finished main and tail wheels, covering material, highest quality plans, color insignia, propeller, clear canopy material and more. This is the WWII wartime issue with no metal parts or paint. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and plans in amazing 'near mint' condition. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - they were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book titled "Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard" by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
