Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I personally considered Sterlings to be 'deluxe' kits.

Guillows Douglas A-1H Skyraider, 904

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1970 scale stick and tissue rubber powered flying model. Includes die cut balsa parts, vacuform nose/spinner, wheels, metal landing gear, plastic propeller, hardware, vacuform canopy, colored tissue, rubber motor, insignia and full size plans with detailed building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.

Revell Hawaiian Pilot C-3 Freighter, 1/400, 05236

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

2005 reissue of the famous 'S' kit from the 1950s. Very nicely detailed kit for that time. Features one-piece hull, full deck details, excellent superstructure and all booms and lifeboats. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. I believe that the Matson Line Hawaiian Pilot originally started life as the Navy USS Burleigh C-3 Transport. After the was she became the Oceanic lines SS Sonoma (#2). On July 14, 1953, Hawaiian Pilot collided with SS Jacob Luckenbach (another C-3 freighter, ex-Sea Robin), off San Francisco. Luckenbach sank in 30 minutes; the crew was safely transferred to Hawaiian Pilot and there was no loss of life.

Kyosho B-25 Mitchell 47 Inch Wingspan U-Control Flying Aircraft

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Very rare. Older, large and very high quality Japanese manufactured kit probably from the 1960s and with a high degree of prefabrication. Measures 36 inches long with a wingspan of 47.25 inches. It is incredibly sturdy, made primarily from a plywood inner structure and completely sheeted with balsa wood. Designed for two .19 to .29 engines. Features completely cut out plywood frames, bulkheads and ribs, balsa parts cut in three dimensions from blocks (need sanding only to finish), two spun aluminum cowls, two fuel tanks, vacuformed clear turret, completely formed metal landing gear struts (3), main and nose balloon type wheels, hardware packet, sheeting material, clear material for windows and very large full size plans.
