Revell 1929 4 1/2 Liter Bentley Highway Pioneers - US Antique Series, 1/32, H63-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$42

Original issue dated 1954 in 'excellent+' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now; but the box does has light wear as shown. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Bentley kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Varney P.F.E (Pacific Fruit Express) 40' Wood Refrigerator (Reefer) Car - Wood and Metal HO Scale Craftsman Train Kit, HO, R-17

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$48

Varney was one of the most known names in early HO model railroading. Gordon Varney was visionary in early business years. Judging from the style of kit, this one is from the 1930s. Features very neatly precut and shaped roof, floor board and ends cut to final shape, other stripwood as needed, metal ladders and fittings, some very early style injection molded parts (such as ice hatches), other metal parts and stock as needed, very colorful and highly detailed cardstock embossed car sides done in bright orange PFE with the Union Pacific logo (correct for this car and kit), and brown embossed car ends. The kit has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and instructions present. The car sides and end are in 'excellent+' condition.

Master Modell Antonov AN-14 Bienchen Clod - Aeroflot / Soviet Air Force / East German Air Force DDR, 1/72, 1026

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$26

Older but nicely molded kit of this very useful and long-lived aircraft. Features very good cockpit, full cabin with floor, seats and bulkheads (with a clear window in the cockpit bulkhead), separately molded control surface hinges, rotating wheels and propellers, optional opened or closed rear loading doors with staircase, and a paint guide & very large and extensive decals sheet for the three versions listed. The Antonov AN-14 'Little Bee' was developed to fulfill an Aeroflot need for a small, twin engined, short-ranged aircraft holding 5 to 6 passenger or 500 kg of freight for an airport to city shuttle service. The aircraft was also designed to be suitable for hire, agriculture, medical service and pilot training. Design emphasis was placed on low-maintenance, STOL performance and rough field take offs and landings. The prototype was completed in spring of 1958 and flight testing started on March 15 of the same year. After solving some typical problem, the aircraft entered series production and was very successful, fulfilling many more duties than it was ever designed for. The AN-14 was eventually phased out but replaced by the An-14M with PTL engines. At present, it's successor model, the AN-28 went into production in Poland. In 1993, PZL-Mielec developed its own improved variant, the PZL M28 Skytruck.

1960 issue of the rare 'Whip Fly' series. Hardbox artwork for this series was 'action' photos by Tom Kelly. Whip-Fly kits contain the aircraft model with nose ballast, a metal control ring, 12 feet of control line and a control handle so that you could spin the aircraft around in circles. This kit has never been started. It is either still in the internally sealed factory bag or has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The long side of the box shows the complete Whip-Fly series with the action box art. Included are H151 F9F-8 Cougar, H152 F-84F, H153 F-89D Scorpion, H154 F8U-1 Crusader, H155 F-39 Airacobra and H156 F-101A Voodoo. Although not listed yet, there was also a Whip-Fly Canberra, F-106 and Yak-25 Flashlight. The Whip-Fly series seemed like a good idea...at first. Revell quickly realized that spinning heavily-ballasted, sharp objects at dizzying speeds in or outside the home near groups of children was not the best idea. The series was quickly discontinued.
