Hudson Miniatures 1903 Rambler - Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$48

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels, lights, other accessories and wooden main parts and occasionally metal parts and cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. The small parts are still factory bag sealed and the other parts have been inventoried complete with all parts, plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Jordan Products 1929 Model A Ford Station Wagon - HO Scale, 1/87, C-217

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$29

Very well detailed for this scale. Intended for HO layouts but are considered fine kits on their own. The back of many Jordan Highway Miniatures boxes reads "Purchaser Please Note: This is not a 'quickie' kit for kids. It is a highly detailed, authentically scaled craft-type kit, designed for modelers of HO Scale Railroads." Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions.

Working features include operating steering, working suspension, lights that operate from the dashboard, doors that open and close with operating door latches and handles, starting handle that operates the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, V-belts, Fan, dynamo and more in the engine and much more. Each wheel is built just like a real spoke wheel with individual spokes and well over 100 parts each. Shipping insurance (and Express Mail for international customers) is required.

AMT 1957 Ford Thunderbird - Stock or Custom, 1/16, 6721

Revell 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, 1/25, 1244

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

$64

Still factory sealed. This is the 1996 reissue of the original 'S' kit utilizing the original artwork. Molded in black, clear and excellent chrome. The Eldorado Brougham four door hardtop (suicide doors) started as a dream car in the GM Motorama and made it to the production floor as the luxury car with "the greatest number of important technological advances ever included in a custom built automobile". The styling was revolutionary at the time. The car sported a large and powerful V-8 engine and air suspension. The interior was simply stunning, with upholstery combinations such as cashmere, nylon and leather in any number of patterns and styles and plenty of chrome trim. In the rear seat, there was a retractable armrest which contained a storage compartment fitted with a vanity, tissue dispenser, cigarette case and a large mirror. All these items, including custom perfume, were designed just for this car. At a price tag of $13,000 few were made but they are valuable classics today.

Revell American Firefighters Chemical and Ladder, 1/48, F201-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$74

First Revell issue dated 1953 with a wonderful hardbox illustration. Features well molded wagon with equipment, real metal chain, horses with material for harnesses, dog and fireman. The kit has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and instructions present. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This issue is from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, as it says 'Trade Mark Copyright 1953 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side.

Revell 1929 4 1/2 Liter Bentley Highway Pioneers - US Antique Series, 1/32, H63-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$42

Original issue dated 1954 in 'excellent+' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now; but the box does has light wear as shown. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Bentley kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Revell Custom Car Bumpers And Grilles, 1/25, C1154

Rare. This is the narrow box version of the early 1960s 'Custom Car Parts' Bumpers and Grills. All parts are chrome plated and the instructions are on the reverse of the card. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. The other issue was the same part number and title but packed in a card with a clear plastic blister-pack.
