Mod-Ac Brougham Closed Four-Wheeled Carriage, 1/24, C947

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$65

Rare. Age unknown - likely 1940s. This is a very highly detailed, period kit the popular carriage introduced in England in 1837 and later became popular in America. Features detailed suspension, full interior, steerable wheels, injection molded spoked wheels, clear headlamps, formed plastic frame, die-cut plastic spring leaves, brackets and trim parts, hardwood parts cut to shape, formed wire parts, leatherette upholstering material, axles and fantastic, full size plans with numerous diagrams, detailed assembly drawings, text instructions and more. The kit has never been started. The small parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including instructions. If it were not for Mod-Ac, we would not have many accurate models of early historic Western transportation. Mod-Ac was a manufacture of early hobby kits out of Los Angeles California. During World War II they issued a well known kit line of military vehicles. The company was innovative as this kit shows - the wide variety of materials, pre-carved wood and highly detailed plans and instructions put this model many notches above the 'make wood look like vehicle' type of kit.

Aurora Grumman F9F Panther - 1st Brooklyn Issue, 1/48, 22

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+++

$1500

Rare 1st issue from 1952 in the one-piece flip top box. 100% original and correct. The model is molded in the correct gloss dark blue with a clear square 'Brooklyn' stand, stand arm and canopy. Being the first issue, the model does not significant rivet detail, nor was it molded with landing gear or missiles. The entire kit is 13 parts including the stand and stand arm. The instructions are the correct early small Brooklyn version with very minor bug damage. Decals are correctly marked 'The Tatem Company' and are in excellent condition with some curl and minimal yellowing. The box is one of the better I have seen. It is intact - there are no missing parts and no repairs. As is typical with this issue, the fragile box has some small tears, creases and edge wear as shown. In summary, a 100% correct, never started and complete kit for the advanced collector of Aurora or military aircraft models. This kit must be shipped insured. Kit History: In the early 1950s Aurora was making children's toys. Since they were always looking for new avenues of business, the three founders were interested in the new fad of 'plastic models'. They were shown the Hawk F-90 and F9F kits in 1/48, and the rest is history. Aurora copied the F9F and F-90 to issue their very first plastic kits. The boxes were two color one-piece flip top boxes of very thin cardboard; the damaged so easily that the kits were immediately reissued in the more familiar 'hardbox' of a litho slick glued to heavy cardboard.

$54

Fantastic artwork is by Ray Gaedke, who painted both of the Skyray issues for Lindberg. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$625

Dated 1954. Rare, desirable and very collectible. Classic early multi-media kit with a fantastic internal box presentation. The box top has excellent color and gloss but general wear as shown, two properly repaired (from the inside) split corners and a closed tear (also repaired) on the lower side. Inside, the kit is factory new. All of the factory cardboard presentation material is present and grades from 'mint' to 'excellent++.' Includes numerous plastic parts in red, gray, clear and black, four unopened glass bottle of Mono*Dope that are still good, an unopened tube of MonoGlue still in the original mint box, all prefabricated wooden parts including the amazing Monofoil wing, three sheets of die-cut and factory painted wood (unpunched), colored die-cut cardstock sheet, sandpaper, gun barrel plastic material, decals in amazing 'near mint' condition, 'near mint' instruction book and full size plans and even a miniature Monogram Catalog showing this kit and the entire Speedee-Bilt line for '54. The kit has never been started. It has been carefully inventoried 100% complete with all parts, paperwork, instructions, plans and decals. Amazingly, the celluloid plastic parts range from no warping to very slight warping (on two of the nacelles). This is very rare, as that type of plastic was unstable and warped easily over time. Before injection molded plastic kits were common, Monogram issued the famous 'Speedee-Bilt' and 'Super Kits' which featured injection molded details and precarved wooden parts. Of these, the Speedee-Bilt B-24 and B-17 were the finest. These kits are very rare today due to their relatively high original price of $4.95. This kit must be shipped insured.

Sanwa Grumman F4F Wildcat - (F4F-5), 1/91, 1115

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$45

Dates from the early 1960s and very hard to find. The kit is dated by the 'Tokyo Plamo' logo, which was used between 1960 and 1964. Inside, the model is factory new - all the parts and decals are still in the factory sealed clear bag. With instructions in 'excellent' condition. Sanwa was one of Japan's earliest post-WWII kit producers, making model kits in the 1950s; some sources say 1955. Kits were marketed under Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo, with the general consensus being the the later logo came out around 1960 or later. Production ended in 1964, making all Sanwa kits rare and collectible. The entire line was extensive. It included very small scale tanks (some that were motorized), battleships in three scales with the larger ones motorized with dual prop drive, slot cars, civil sport boats and an electric outboard, a full line of hand gun models that actually shot plastic bullets, two fighter groups and bomber groups (probably Monogram), several different lines of scale aircraft, missile kits, scale (static) car models of early Japanese automobiles, at least 7 flying model aircraft that had electric and rubber motors, a 'Super Control Stand' P-51 that moved with a joystick and had an electric propeller and sound unit, two different lighthouses and a windmill, an air cushion boat, motor cycles, a diving submarine (electric) and a working (rubber band) George Washington Class SSBN and even a garden tractor with an electric motor. Just before going out of business, Sanwa issued some kits in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games - these kits even included a copy of an Olympic medal.
