Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Most all Berkeley kits contain a high degree of prefabrication to speed up assembly. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. And thanks to Stephen Payne for submitting this additional information- The team of Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin raced at tracks throughout North Carolina and became a national sensation in the 1960s and early '70s dominating the action in their chosen area of competition, including the Super Stock, Factory Experimental, Funny Car, and Pro Stock categories. The team duo pioneered the development of drag racing teams as professional business operations. Sox was the winningest Pro Stock driver (nine victories in 23 events) in the 1970-72 "four-speed era." Initially Martin and Sox were competitors, but Martin approached Sox to drive his car after concluding that he just couldn't beat him. The Sox & Martin team ceased operation at the end of the 1975 season as a result of the energy crisis and dwindling factory support.

SMP 1957 Pontiac Star Chief 4 Door Hardtop Friction Drive Promo, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Original dealer promotional model. It is 100% complete. This is a one-owner model that has always been adult owned. It has the metal chassis factory-painted black and stamped "S.M.P. Mt Clemons Mich"; the friction motor still works. The tires are factory new - it has never been played with and never exposed to smoke. The body is very good but has slight warping - the worst of which is at the rockers. I repaired by sliding a small piece of balsa in (friction fit only - easily removed) since the body is still flexible. Body color is nice but has some light foxing. Chrome is in 'good++' condition and the clear is like new. Some of the fine trim (door handles etc) has been painted to 'professional' quality; it is good enough to pass for factory paint.

Aurora P-51 Mustang Screwdriver Issue - (P-51D), 1/27, 377

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has split on the left side. Very rare kit dated 1972 with the Big A logo. This model was designed to take a gas motor for U-Control. But Aurora discontinued the gas powered line very shortly after introduction due to returns and liability. Since the investment was already made in the molds, Aurora marketed these kits as large scale static models. For example, the 1/32 scale B-25 was issued in Gas U-Control and then static - but the P-51 may have only been issued in static.
