West Side Model Co D&RGW Mikado Class K-37 Brass Locomotive HOn3 Nakamura Seimjitsu KK - Lightly Weathered, 1/87

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Beautiful brass locomotive and tender, hand-built in Japan by the renown Nakamura Seimitsu Co. Ltd. This one-owner model has been carefully stored in the original box, which includes all three pieces of factory foam in 'very good' condition. Under 14x magnification, the wheels show that it has been lightly run but very little. The factory paint and all lettering & numbers are beautiful but please this model has been 'lightly weathered' to professional standards. Two painted, correct scale figures have been added to the cab - that is the only other modification I can find. I believe them to be complete with no missing or broken parts; but please examine the photos for yourself. I have no narrow gauge track, so I am unable to test the locomotive, so it is sold "As Is." There is no paperwork present. Must be shipped insured.

The Ward was a Wickes-class 1247-ton destroyer launched in 1918 . After serving as a station ship during the first trans-Atlantic flights of NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 in 1919, she came back to the Pacific and was decommissioned there in July 1921. In 1920 the ship received the hull number DD-139. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Ward was on patrol just outside Pearl Harbor. She spotted and sank Japanese Midget Submarine and fired the first US shots of WWII. The Ward saw extensive activity through the war as a transport in most of the major battle areas of the Pacific as a fast transport. During the Leyte operations she took a Kamikaze hit amidship and the crew had to abandon her. The destroyer USS O'Brien had to sink the Ward with gunfire. The Commanding Officer of the O'Brien was William W. Outerbridge, who had been in command of Ward off Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. The date that she was sunk was December 7th, 1944, three years to the day of her opening shots.

It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Even the original factory tissue packing paper is present. This famous car is directly tied to one of racings greatest names, Louis Chevrolet. Louis and his brother He and his brother Arthur came to American in about 1905 and immediately began racing; Louis alone won 10 National Championship races between 1909 and 1919. Louis and Arthur joined forces with William Crapo 'Billy' Durant to form the Chevrolet Car Company in 1911. However, few people got along with Durant and the Chevrolet brothers were no exception. By 1915 they had sold their stock and moved on to Indianapolis. They immediately went back into racing and built their own cars. However, they were not allowed to use the Chevrolet name. The unofficial Chevrolet team was the first to achieve consecutive Indianapolis 500 wins. The first is this kit, the 1920 Monroe Special driven by younger brother Gaston Chevrolet and in 1921 in a Frontenac Special driven by Tommy Milton.
