Renwal 1966 Duesenberg Modern Classic Revival, 1/25, 103-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

The idea behind Renwal's Revival Series came from the Detroit design team of Virgil M. Exner Sr. (the famous Chrysler designer) and his son, Virgil Jr. The famous design team, somewhat displeased with modern automobiles, started thinking about what the old time classics would look like today - if made by Packard, Mercer, Duesenberg and Stutz. Virgil Sr. and Jr. thus designed four modern classics and they were published in a national magazine - Renwal then began kit production of these four. The kit features a complete V-12 engine, engine compartment detail, removable hood and a complete interior. It is molded in gloss deep tan, gloss light tan, chrome, clear & red-tinted clear to minimize painting and includes rubber whitewall tires. The kit has never been started. Two sets of parts are still in the factory sealed clear bags. The parts that were not sealed have been inventoried and NOTE: missing one exhaust manifold (only visible when the hood is opened). Otherwise inventoried complete with instructions.

After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Pavla Focke-Achgelis FA-330 Helicopter, 1/72, 72015

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Limited production model with injection molded parts and photoetched details. Unique German one-man early recon U-Boat/battlefield helicopter. Never started. Factory sealed bag with decals and instructions. The primary use of the FA-330 was by the Kreigsmarine, particularly U-Boats. Before radar, the U-boat visual search capacity was about 10 miles on an absolutely clear day, due to the fact the conning tower elevation was only about 15' above the water when surfaced. To compensate, the U-boat Arm came up with this helicopter idea to achieve additional height for extending the visual distance to the horizon. The FA-330 stayed in a water-tight canister on the deck casing, aft of the AA gun mount wintergarden and when surfaced the "chopper" would be pulled-out, unfolded, manned with a pilot/observer and deployed on a 100-meter cable. While towed at surface speed of the U-boat, the increased height extended the horizon distance 2-3 times, allowing the observer to actually see "over" the horizon. The tether line also had a pair of communication wires so the observer could communicate directly to the U-boat watch officer. On spotting a target, the 330 would be winched-in, folded-up and put back in the canister with the greatest of speed. (Thanks to Mike Hamrick for the additional history)

Sterling De Havilland Tiger Moth Dh-82 - 33 Inch Wingspan R/C / Control Line / Gas or CO2 / Free Flight / Rubber / Static Scale, 1/11, E13

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Excellent scale model with a 33 inch wingspan kit for RC, CO2, free flight, control line or non-flying detailed scale build. Features all die-cut balsa and plywood parts, numerous detailed light-weight plastic parts (cowls, spinner and more), rubber motor, plastic prop, formed wire landing gear, strip wood, real rubber tires with completely finished hubs, control hardware, hinge material, beautiful full size plans and a huge, colorful decal sheet. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the "STERLING" clear bag. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits and very complete.

Hudson Miniatures 1911 Buick Model 14 Bug, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Dated 1949 on the box. Large 1/16 scale kit measures almost 8 inches long when built. Very nicely detailed with numerous die-cut, saw cut and machined wood parts, beautiful plastic wheels, grill, headlights, lanterns and steering wheel, metal parts and stock and die-cut cardstock. The Hudson Miniatures engineers had access to the actual car- and did a wonderful job. The car was owned by Mr. H. Austin Clark and was in the Long Island Museum at Southampton, Long Island, New York. Includes full size plans, many detailed sub-assembly drawings, photos of the built model from all angles, history, painting guide and instructions. This kit has never been started. The small parts are still factory bag sealed, and all other have been inventoried complete with all paperwork. The Buick Model 14, popularly known as the 'Bug' was produced from 1910 to 1911. It was in direct competition to cars like the Metz, Brush, Holsman and other high-wheelers. It's 2 cylinder, horizontally opposed 'L' head engine was rated at 14 hp and could hit a top speed of 30 mph. At $550, the Model 14 was priced well and sold well. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Hudson Miniatures 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels, grill, headlamps, spotlight, running lights and other accessories and wooden main parts. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car owned by Mr. James Melton. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including detailed plans/instructions. As a note, few people even knew that International Harvester even made a passenger car. Not many were produced and very, very few are in existence. Jim Melton's car, the car examined by Hudson engineers, was likely given to him as a promotion as he was a popular opera singer and the star of International Harvester's radio show 'Harvest of the Stars'. The car was very solidly built to last and reportedly gave excellent service. Why IH did not pursue production is not known. Sold

Rare. Beautifully cast in high-definition resin with all fine recessed panel lines, cockpit, optional position landing gear and full decal. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The XP-37 few in 1937. This aircraft was an adaptation of the P-36 fighter with the liquid-cooled Allison V-1710-C7 12 cylinder engine installed. A turbo-supercharger was installed, and this aircraft achieved an impressive 340 mph at 20,000 feet in 1937. However, it suffered from frequent turbo-supercharger failures. An order for 13 service aircraft followed on December 11, 1937. The first service models delivered between April 29 1939 and December 5, 1939 were designated YP-37. All aircraft suffered from mechanical problems, and the US Army Air Force discontinued all further development.
