Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the 'Photo-Plan' instructions, providing photos for each step and detailed text, full size plans and parts list. The kit has never been started. Inventoried as good as possible and appears complete with all parts, decals and full instructions with plans. There are no part numbers and assembly is by the plans; so inventory is very difficult at best. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacture, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing, huge scale Sherman M4 tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWI to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.

Eureka Hobby Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat (F8F) - 36 Inch Wingspan Class B Flying Aircraft

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Extremely rare, highly prefabricated kit from post-war Japan. Most likely from the early 1960s. These kits were produced to complete in the saturated American market, and they distinguished themselves by the quality and amount of work already done. This large-scale model can be operated with B or C class engines and features a beautiful aluminum full cowl, pre-assembled landing gear struts with rubber tires & metal hubs and sheet metal gear doors soldered in place, rubber tail wheel with metal hub, completed soldered gas tank, clear vacuform canopy (still excellent and not yellowed), diecut hardwood fuselage bulkheads, die-cut fuselage keels, metal hardware, finished wood prop, die-cut ribs and a very large number of other factory cut parts (both large and small), sheeting wood, full size plans, color insignia and more. Never started and complete. Eureka Hobby made a large line of giant scale gas powered models; they were not inexpensive, which is what makes them very rare today. This Bearcat was $8 in the early 1960s. Other aircraft produced, along with the wingspans and price are as follows: F4U Corsair (31" $10), Me-109E (36" $8), FW-190 (36" $8 and 26" $5.95, AD-4 Skyraider (36" $8), AD-2 Skyraider (24.5" $4.95), L-17 Navion (33" $8), F-94C Starfire with an all metal body and wings for Tiger-Jet engine (31" and $19.95, DC-6B (73", 59" long, four tanks, aluminum cowls, shock absorbing gear, four props for $47.50 - I had one of these, it was an amazing kit), Super DC-3 (61" $29.95, Fairchild Packet Transport (56" $29.50), C-45 Twin Beech (45" $28), Military DC-3 or C-47 (48" $24.50), SA-16 Albatross (54" $25.95), P-2V4 Neptune (51" $21.50), Commando (62" $28), Mig-15 (all metal body and wing, designed for Tiger Jet engine, 36" $22.50), F-84E Thunderjet (37.5" for Dyna-Jet fully enclosed engine and has rear aluminum fuselage $22.50) and finally a B-29 - the line flagship. This model had a 7 foot wingspan, was 59" long, was entirely wood planked and had numerous special features - all for only $39.50. San Diego Model Shop was at least one of the US distributors for these models.

Lindberg F-86D Sabre Jet Fighter - with First Logo, 1/48, 522-98

Very rare first Lindberg issue with the 'script' logo and 'narrow' box. From the mid 1950s with dramatic Ray Gaedke artwork. Molded in high gloss silver and clear. Includes script logo decals and box logo instructions which was not unusual. The box was originally numbered 522-79 and has been over-stamped with a factory '98' for the price. Lindberg always used up any old stock and never seemed to waste any boxes, parts, decals or instructions. Paul Lindberg's consistent year-to-year bottom line profits are testimony to this. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.
