MPC 1975 Chevrolet Vega Promo, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Amazing condition, true dealer promotional model with the original box. One owner and obtained new from a Lexington, KY dealership in 1975 by a discriminating collector. It is still wrapped in the original tissue paper and is in factory-new condition. It was never used, displayed or played with and the tires reflect that. Color and gloss are like new, as is the chrome, clear and tires. Complete with all parts. Although I can't imagine how it could be better, I'll grade it 9.8 out of 10 as I hesitate to call anything perfect. The box is 'very good' and is stamped "75 VEGA MEDIUM RED" on the end flap. There are no MPC markings, but I have listed it as that manufacturer as a guess since they marketed this car as an assembly it in this scale.

Frog Swordfish Mk.1, 1/72, F258

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Final issue with the late 1970s Frog logo. Includes decals for both historic aircraft (810(TSR) Sq HMS Ark Royal 1041 or No. 701 Catapult Flight HMS Hood 1938) and a color painting guide as well. This kit has not been started. Inventoried with all aircraft parts complete but NOTE: missing stand. With decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.

This is appropriate, since this Berkeley kit is a model of her exact aircraft! Also included is a news paper biographical article and photo of Skelton. The actual kit is large-scale and highly detailed. Originally designed for .19 to .33 gas powered control line, it can be converted to electric power. Features precision die cut parts in balsa and plywood, fully finished and slotted leading and trailing edges for both wings, all planking and sheeting material, a beautiful metal cowl and metal wheel pants, fully finished main and tail wheels, completely formed landing gear struts and brace, extensive hardware packet, covering tissue, three huge decal sheets with every red stripe and red area included, one small 'The Little Stinker' decal sheet and beautiful plans with instructions. Never started and complete. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

MPC 1970 Dodge Charger Sub Lime Promo With Original Box and Decals, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very, very rare promotional model, especially in this condition and with the original box and decals. The box is stamped "CHARGER SUB LIME." This model was obtained in 1972 in Lexington KY by a very discriminating adult collector. The model is in amazing condition. The paint has like-new color and gloss, the chrome is in factory-new condition and the model has never even been displayed outside the box. There is zero body warp and the clear is in 'near mint' condition. I would grade this one 9.5 out of 10 with 10 flawless. The deduction is for light box scratches on the roof. The decals are also very nice, with very light wear and a small amount of foxing being the only flaws. Even includes the original factory packing paper. The box is complete with all flaps and solid but has wear as shown and age foxing.
