Still factory sealed. Rare, and the only 1/48 SB2A model ever made. Monogram USS Constitution Old Ironsides Frigate, 3501

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

Sold

Still factory sealed. From 1977 with John Steel box art. This is an excellent kit with simplified assembly; a slightly easier build than Revell's kit of the same size. The scale is not mentioned but this one measures just over 16 inches long when assembled. I estimate that it has been 75 to 100 parts. Features finely engraved one piece hull, detailed deck with all fittings, one-piece masts and yards, molded ratlines, superb vacuform sails (some of the best I have seen), rigging thread, rigging instructions, display stand and decals. Molded in black, wood tan and the sails in ivory vacuform plastic.

Revell A-4D Skyhawk With Bullpup Missiles - 'S' Issue, 1/50, H299-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very rare. First and only issue dated 1958. From the amazing box art you can clearly see why these kits are so collectible. This kit uses modified 1956 molds from H232-89, the original S Skyhawk issue. Revell added two Bullpup Missiles (improperly labeled as 'Air-To-Air Missiles' on the box top), two missile trailers with towbars, four figures, three figure bases, weapons pylons, separate flap hinge covers and of course a completely new decal sheet. Molded in the correct gloss gray and clear. Never started. NOTE: missing one (very small) flap hinge cover and drop tank. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts present, plus very nice decals and instructions. NOTE: the box shows better than the 'good-' ranking but is graded as such because there is excessive wear on two sides - the top long and right short. Two corners have closed splits and are taped (with clear tap) and there is a tape tear on the top long side.

Revell 1953 Jaguar XK-120 Highway Pioneers - Series 4, 1/32, H56-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1953 early issue molded in very light green plastic. The kit has not been started. It is still internally sealed in the factory 'krinkle' bag with the instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Kyosho Convair B-36 Peacemaker Bomber - 9.3 Foot Wingspan 6 Engine Flying Model Airplane, 1/18

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Listed as "S&E" but there is no doubt that this is Kyosho's famous flagship kit from the 1960s. NOTE: builder kit only, please read very carefully as it is missing some parts. Very Rare and Very Large model from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Approximately 1/18 scale flying model aircraft kit with a 112.5 inch (9.375 foot) Wingspan and a overall length of 78 inches (6.5 foot). Designed for powered flight on 6 gasoline engines and control line. It was once popular to convert this kit to RC but great skill is required. Highly prefabricated kit of precut hardwood, precut plywood, precut and pre-shaped balsa, vacuform plastic canopies and blisters, completely prefabricated sprung main landing gear with metal hubs and rubber tires. Includes metal hardware also. There are two very large sheets of full size plans in 'very good++' condition. There is no assembly. NOTE: someone built the easy part of the fuselage (the perfectly round section), installed the nose strut and never touched the rest of the kit. The portion they built is gone. So the kit ONLY INCLUDES the wing parts, nacelles, main landing gear struts and wheels, clear canopy and other clear parts as required, horizontal and vertical stabilizer, rudder and elevator parts, aft fuselage parts and of course the two large plans sheets. I have inventoried those to the best of my ability -not an easy task with this kit - and everything major is there. It may be missing a small balsa block or two or some basic hardware, but everything important is there. Sold as-is.

Comet North American P-51D Mustang - 22 inch Wingspan Gas or Rubber Powered Wooden Aircraft Kit, 1624-250

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG++

Sold

Still factory sealed. Purchased new on April 18, 1973. Still factory sealed but the seal has drawn the box top concave as shown. Large scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with all die cut parts, 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction and 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' construction, colorful insignia, detailed full size plans, building instructions, wheels, hardware, tissue and propeller. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

ITC Stinson Model T Tri-Motor - Eastern Air Service, 1/61, 3722

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare. This famous early 1930s transport was the primary competition of the Ford Tri-Motor and saw widespread use. It was the idea of E.L. Cord, the money behind the aircraft and the owner of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg automobile company. Cord also owned Lycoming, the engines that ended up on the final product. Another of Cord's companies was Century Airlines, which naturally used the aircraft. Century later became part of American Airlines. The Model T was used by many other airlines including Eastern, Delta, Braniff, TWA, United and American when they rolled up Century. The Tri-Motor carried 10 passengers, baggage and of course the mail, which was critical to early airline revenue. The aircraft proved successful and economical to operate. Includes clear windows, interior with passengers and pilots, Eastern Air Service decals and clear blue-tinted display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The clear parts and decals are still in the factory sealed bag.
