Fujimi 1/700 CV-2 USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier - Pre-Coral Sea Configuration, 44116 plastic model kit

1/700 44116 Fujimi CV-2 USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier - Pre-Coral Sea Configuration

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Very finely molded and highly detailed for this scale. Features airwing of F4F Wildcats, SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber and Devastator TBD-1 torpedo aircraft. Never started and the parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. This model includes the 8" gun turrets, which were removed before the Battle of the Coral Sea. Originally designed and laid down as a battle cruiser, the Lexington was converted to the 2nd aircraft carrier in the US Navy. Her battlecruiser speed was legendary and the four twin 8 inch turrets made her 'The Largest Heavy Cruiser Afloat'. After absorbing significant battle damage in the Coral Sea in 1942, the Lady Lex had to be abandoned due to internal avgas explosions after the battle. The fully enclosed hangar deck, which was unique at the time, may have contributed to the fume build up.
