1/175 3660-998 ITC Halibut Diving Motorized Submarine - (SSGN 587 Cam-A-Matic Electric Powered Regulus Sub)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

From 1960. This model is the zenith of the ITC Design and Engineering Team and maybe of all operational plastic model kits. It is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch submarine sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes headings, dives, surfaces and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic and a major break-through for that time. The model worked and did work well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. The high price ($9.98) and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly and operation made for a short production run. The fact the ITC left the model business for good shortly after releasing the kit contributed to the scarcity as well. Inside, the kit is in excellent condition. It has never been started. All of the small and medium sized metal parts and hardware are still in the factory sealed bag. The red plastic parts and metal control linkage rods are still in the factory sealed bag as well. The large metal parts and the white parts have been inventoried 100% complete. Includes decals and instructions in 'excellent++' condition. The blue display cardboard is all present and in 'excellent' condition with no stains and very light discoloration as the only flaw. The boxtop is only graded 'fair-'; it presents OK from a distance but up close you can spot significant wear, edge litho chips, missing sections at the lower right top and the same corner, a 3.5" strip of the top left long box side and a great deal of other miscellanious damage as well. Just as important is the fact that the top and lower box has a great deal of clear tape on them both holding them together. So let me be clear that the box is there not in collectible condition; that is why it is graded 'Fair-.' NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.
