Eagles Talon 1/48 Yokosuka E14Y Glen - Submarine Aircraft, ET204 plastic model kit

1/48 ET204 Eagles Talon Yokosuka E14Y Glen - Submarine Aircraft

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Rare 1/48 model and still the only Glen in this scale. Features main parts cleanly vacuformed in white plastic with a clear canopy and resin details. Never started. The kit has been inventoried and NOTE missing the straight float struts. Because they are simple and flat, they are easily made from stock or sheet plastic. Includes all other parts and instructions. Although many countries attempted to develop submarine float planes, only one country that succeeded in making them operational. The Japanese E14Y met all requirements for quick assembly/disassembly, storage in a drum on the submarine deck, taking the stress of catapult launch & open sea landings and yet still having enough speed and weapons load to be a viable combat aircraft. The first prototype was flown in 1939 and was followed by 125 production aircraft. The E14Y was first used operationally (in war) for post-strike evaluation of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Based on I-7 thru I-11 and I-15-I-35, the Glen was used for anti-shipping flights as well as reconnaissance flights over Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Madagascar, the Aleutians and the US Mainland. It is most famous for carrying out the only bombing of the US Mainland on September 9th and 29th, 1942. As time went on and radar became widespread, the E14Y was removed from front line use. From that point on, it was used extensively on the home front at a patrol bomber.
