Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Modern reissue from the original 1950s classic kit and still a 'Classic Builder' favorite. Full hull kit which was very well detailed for that time features full hull, prop and rudder detail, extensive deck fittings, detailed guns and gun tubs, complete superstructure, landing craft with opening front doors, display stand and more. There is a superb, modern decal sheet for all versions listed. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history directly linked to the origins of USA plastic ship modeling. Originally produced by Varney in 1944, it was novel at the time as it was highly detailed, had a wooden hull, cardstock but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. When the early Varney aircraft and ship kits did not sell well, Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock deck, metal railings and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he modified the molds for a third time so the kit has metal railings and all other parts are injection molded. Because it was always a great seller, Paul Lindberg reissued this model many times under numerous different box art. Some versions were motorized; others were not. Now Round 2 has acquired the Lindberg molds and issued it again; few kits have had this long of a successful life.
