WSW 1/700 SMS Blucher Cruiser, WSW700-37 plastic model kit

1/700 WSW700-37 WSW SMS Blucher Cruiser

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Rare model of a great subject. Finely cast from high-definition resin and superior in detail to injection molding. The main hull and larger parts are resin and there is round brass stock in various diameters for the masts and yards as well. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. WSW stood for 'Wings Ships and Wheels' and all production was in Germany. To ship modelers world-wide they are best know for their superb line of 1/700 models, many of which are still the only kit available for that subject. The Blucher was built to compete with the Invincible-class battlecruisers. Unfortunately, the German intelligence on the Invincibles was wrong, and Blucher was built as a large protected cruiser. This hybrid ended up being larger and overmatched for any other cruiser, but unable to stand in the main battleline. Blucher saw a great deal of action early in the war with the High Seas Fleet. However, the Germans were not quite sure how to deploy her, as she ended up in the Battlecruiser Squadron at Dogger Bank. She was already slightly slower than Hipper's main ships (Seydlitz, Moltke and Derfflinger) as was a full 4 knots slower than the pursuing British in Lion. Blucher quickly ended up in the van and was quickly outgunned by the superior British force. These hits slowed her further. Hipper decided to leave her to save the more valuable battlecruisers. Blucher sank with a great loss of life.
