1/32 M557-100 Renwal M-50 Ontos - The Thing With The Sting
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Good+
Rare 1950s original issue; not a common reissue. Fantastic first issue 'Blueprint' hardbox artwork and a highly detailed kit featuring 11 parts, combat crew of three, working treads, some interior detail, opening hatches and covers and more. NOTE: this kit has minor and 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: the lower hull/chassis is assembled. All suspension, bogies and tracks work perfectly. There is no other assembly. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please note, the box displays much better than the 'good+' rating but is graded as such because eah long side has a piece of masking tape in the center. The Ontos was a unique vehicle. Ontos is a Greek word for 'The Thing' and the vehicles lives up to that. Developed along a new concept in mobile warfare, the Ontos has little defense other than movement but a very powerful offensive punch. It carries six 106mm recoilless rifles and .50 caliber spotting rifles. The firing sequence went like this: the crew of three would get out and hand load the six large guns. Then the Ontos would quickly move towards the target. Once sited, the gunner would fire the .50 caliber machines guns until he saw them hit the target - this assured that the 6 big rifles were on target also. At the time, he could fire a full salvo of 6 or in steps of two. The 8.5 ton vehicle would then speed away, moving to a safe location to reload.
