1/8 PC88-1498 Monogram The Big Deuce 1932 Ford Roadster - Classic Yellow Issue - Street or Show Rod or Classic Highboy

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Rare first issue from 1963. In the early 1960s Monogram invested in a series of huge 1/8 scale models with extraordinary detail and working features. The complete line consisted of the Big 'T' Street/Rod, Big Drag Competition Roadster, Big Rod Show/Go Roadster, Big Tub Custom Phaeton and this Big Deuce '32 Ford Roadster. The design work alone for the model was $50,000; then Deuce molds cost over $150,000 to produce - an absolute fortune at the time. The total cost of the complete 1/8 scale line of cars was over $1,000,000 - in 1963 money. The result was a nearly flawless large American Automotive model that has never been equaled to this day. The Big Deuce was one of the series by famous customize Darryl Starbird and was issued in red or yellow bodies - this is the yellow issue. It measures 20.5 inches long when assembled. Fit, mold quality and finish are of the highest quality - as only Monogram could do. Very highly detailed with 284 parts molded in 6 colors, 185 parts in chrome plate as well as real rubber tires. Can be built as the classic roadster or the highboy. Each can be further customized with a variety of extra parts. The kit features operating doors and trunk lid, operating head and tail lights (bulbs and hardware included), operating tilt windshield with wind wings, realistic steering from the steering wheel, super detailed Pontiac engine with six Stromberg carburetors, individual spark plugs and ignition wires, rolled and pleated interior and trunk, dash panel with S-W instruments, chrome plated under-carriage and Le Mans wheels, realistic rubber wide whitewall tires, custom chrome firewall with instruments, plated dropped front axle, flexible radiator hoses, optional top with detailed top bow frame and much more. The model builds up a realistic rolling chassis with all suspension, driveline and exhaust items just like the actual car. Inside, the kit has never been started. All the original factory packing material is present- the lower tissue and all the clear 'separator' sections used between each part tree. The yellow plastic is brilliant, glossy and deep...it looks like paint, but it is not. The small parts are still in the small factory sealed clear bag. Monogram never sealed the other parts and they have been been carefully inventoried 100% complete. The chrome was always covered and is outstanding 'Near Mint' condition which is very unusual. Includes decals, instructions and even the Big Deuce Guarantee sheet. The decals are 100% intact but have visible age cracking; please see the article (on this website) about saving and restoring old kit decals. The box is rated only 'Good-' because is has light stains, general wear and discoloration as shown, tiny dots of white overspray and the cardboard is very brittle. There are some high-quality repairs done correctly from the inside with cardstock and book binding glue. The only missing litho is on the right short side, a 3 x 1 inch section at the very bottom center. NOTE: these kits commonly had cracked or broken yellow plastic as the high-gloss formula was very brittle. This kit has a very high-quality repair to the body where part of the cowl cracked in two places. There are close up photos of the repaired areas. The repairs are solid and reinforced from the rear so they are stronger than the original body. There repaired joints are perfectly smooth; there is no ridge. However, there is a tiny (about 1mm) chip of plastic missing on the very rear of the cowl.
