1/72 IA-19 Comet Supermarine Spitfire Official Identification Kit - 'Build For Victory'
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc
A very rare kit and even more so in this condition. From about 1941/42. This model is 'Identical to the one used in the Model Building Program of the US Office of Education sponsored by the US Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics' which was a program launched in 1941. During WWII the higher speed of aircraft made the traditional WW1 'recognition cards' nearly useless and 3D models were needed. The US Armed Forces looked to the general population to produce recognition models. While not fully successful due to irregular quality and supply, it quickly paved the way for superior injection molded recognition models. This kit features wood blocks, sheets and stock, a metal tube of wood glue, sandpaper, an excellent, very thick paper template, outline and gauge sheet as well as fold-out full size plans with aircraft history and detailed carving and building instructions. Never started and complete.
