Aurora 1/87 The Wanderer Whaler - HO Scale, 440-595 plastic model kit

1/87 440-595 Aurora The Wanderer Whaler - HO Scale

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Rare 1966 hardbox issue of this very large, two-foot long classic commercial whaler. Well detailed for that time. This was one of a series of large-scale sailing ships made by Aurora to appeal to the serious ship modeler. Molded in correct dark wood, black, tan, ivory and white. Features billowing sails, metal anchor chain, running and standing rigging, molded ratlines and display stand. It has not been started. The parts that were factory sealed are all still factory sealed. Only the white sail parts were never factory sealed, and they have been inventoried complete. Includes decals, flag sheet, metal chain, rigging thread and detailed, illustrated instructions. The Wanderer was built in Mattapoiset, MA in 1878 and was the last sailing whaleship to depart the US on a whaling voyage. She sailed from New Bedford on 24 August 1924 and was driven ashore on Cuttyhunk Island by a gale the next day and became a total loss. (from Joe Greenley)
