1/48 85-5844 Revell F-86D Sabre Dog

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Around 1949 the USAF assigned a high priority to all weather fighter design and deployment. Most manufacturers built traditional two seat machines, such as the F-94. North American, however took a new approach and created one of the first true "One-Man Interceptors". Keeping the wings and landing gear from the proven F-86 Day Fighter, they made a longer and deeper fuselage with a large radome and J47 engine. Guns were replaced with 24 2.75" folding fin rockets. Although more than a ton heavier than the F-86, the Dog was the fasted aircraft of it's day and set several world records. 2,504 were built and formed the backbone of America's air defense system in the 1950s. Has markings for 512 FIS, 406 FIW Squadron Commanders aircraft and "Sweet Sue" from 51st FIW in Formosa, 1955. Features recessed panel lines, positionable flaps and air brakes. Still factory sealed.
