The 295' bark rigged sailing ship was built in 1936 in Bremerhaven, Germany, for the German Navy. It was originally named Horst Vessel. The ship was named the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, and has been used ever since as a training ship for future U.S. Coast Guard Officers. Eagle is based in New London, Connecticut.
