Monogram 1/8 The Big T Custom T Ford Street and Show Pickup, PC78-1098 plastic model kit

1/8 PC78-1098 Monogram The Big T Custom T Ford Street and Show Pickup

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Rare, original issue from 1962 and in exceptional one-owner condition, untouched condition. In the early 1960s Monogram invested in a series of huge 1/8 scale models with extraordinary detail and working features. The complete line consisted of the Big 'T' Street/Rod, Big Drag Competition Roadster, Big Rod Show/Go Roadster, Big Tub Custom Phaeton and this Big Deuce '32 Ford Roadster. The Big T molds cost over $100,000 to produce - an absolute fortune at the time. The design work alone for the molds was $40,000. The total cost of the complete 1/8 scale project was over $1,000,000 - in 1963 money. The result was nearly flawless, large American automotive models that has never been equaled to this day. The Big T had 203 precision parts and was the very first of the series, and parts from eleven standard automobiles - six Fords, Mercury, Cadillac, Buick, Olds, Corvette - plus special custom parts - were scaled to make it. There are optional parts for the version shown as well as a Chopped '23 Ford shell and custom grill variant. Features rolling chassis build up like the actual automobile, highly detailed engine with clear fuel lines, rubber hoses and all ignition wires, complete suspension, driveline and exhaust, choice of two interior packages, cloth seatbelts, working steering, optional position convertible top and bed cover, optional motorizing (with Monogram #AK200, sold separately), rubber white wall tires, exhibition accessories including easel with display poster, show car display stanchions and cord, two jack stands, a full chrome tool set, three flares, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, trophy and more. The box very nice condition. It is not perfect but is one of the better ones I have seen. Color and gloss are very good, all four corners are solid with no repairs, there are no price tags or tape (not even factory sealing tape). The flaws include light general wear as shown and a section of missing litho on the white top (hard to see because it is white against white). Inside the kit is factory-new. These boxes were never cello sealed; the customer was invited to look inside each one. When you removed the box top, there was a clear panel bordered with yellow cardboard and this was glued to the lower box (tray) to seal the kit. This kit still has that yellow and clear inner 'lid' in excellent condition. Under that, all the original factory packing material is present- the lower tissue and all the clear 'separator' sections used between each part tree. The model is molded in the correct colors - high gloss red, clear, silver, black, ivory, chrome plate and with rubber whitewall tires. The red plastic is brilliant, glossy and deep...it looks like paint, but it is not. The chrome is in amazing 'near mint++' condition and is factory-new due to the thick plastic separator sheets which are still in place. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still factory sealed. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete with decals, instructions and even the Big T Guarantee sheet. The kit has never been started.
