1/192 Boucher Victory Ship VC2-S-AP1 - 28 Inches Long - (Bluejacket)

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Museum quality craftsman kit from the company that became Bluejacket. Features a beautiful factory carved, hardwood kiln-dried hull, extensive high quality cast Britannia fittings in the correct factory boxes (a miniature of the large box) and other hardwood and metal parts as required. Includes very detailed full size blue-print building plans. This issue is probably from the 1950s. The kit has never been started. The parts that were never factory sealed (hull, wood and metal stock) have been inventoried complete. All of the fittings are still in the factory boxes and have never been removed. IWith plans. The Victory Ships were designed to replace the Liberty ships of WWII. 531 were ultimately built. They were larger, more powerful, faster, longer ranged and made their appearance in 1944. Steaming at 15 to 17 knots allowed them to be much more effective at evading U-boats. They were so successful that they became the basis of the US Merchant Marine after the war. Boucher was one of the earliest successful high-quality model companies in the USA. It was founded in 1905 Horace E. Boucher, a French-born naval architect employed by U.S. Navy Department and head of the Navy's model shop in Washington. Boucher kits were prized possessions at that time and naval museums displayed built versions - there are more than 40 Boucher kits in the Smithsonian alone. Boucher pioneered the mass production of cast metal fittings and selling full kits to the general public. Some credit him with starting the infant model industry in the United States that grew to prominence in the 1950s. At the very least, he took what had been the hobby of a tiny handful of skilled craftsman and made it into a hobby that almost anyone could enjoy.
