Huma Model 1/72 DFS-346 Supersonic High Speed & Altitude Reconnaissance - Samolyot 346, 4002 plastic model kit

1/72 4002 Huma Model DFS-346 Supersonic High Speed & Altitude Reconnaissance - Samolyot 346

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Rare injection molded kit features fine, all recessed panel lines, cockpit module, prone pilot, landing skid, markings for Luftwaffe and USSR versions and full instructions with fascinating history notes. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The DFS-346 was to piggy-back launch from a Do-217 and then operate at up to 100,000 feet and supersonic speeds where enemy interception was impossible. The pilot's pressure cabin could, in an emergency, be blown free with four explosive bolts. After the separated front module reached a safe altitude where the pilot could survive without oxygen, the pilot was ejected and a parachute deployed. Power was two Walther HWK 109-509 rocket engines. The Western Allies searched for this aircraft after the war but failed to find it; later they learned that the Soviets had captured the prototype and had used German technicians under Russian supervision to build and test this aircraft (and modified new prototypes) right after the war as the "Samolyot 346."
