1/175 3660-998 ITC Halibut SSGN 587 Cam-A-Matic Submarine - (Electric Powered Diving Motorized Regulus Sub)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

From 1960. This model is the zenith of the ITC Design and Engineering Team, and maybe of all operational plastic model kits. It is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch submarine sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes headings, dives, surfaces, and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic and a major break-through for that time. The model worked, and did work well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. The high price ($9.98) and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly and operation made for a short production run. The fact the ITC left the model business for good shortly after releasing the kit contributed to the scarcity as well. The boxtop displays much better than the 'good' grade; I have graded it 'good' because the box has missing litho along the very bottom center, smaller missing areas on the corners and right side, general shelf wear and one closed split on two corners. I very carefully repaired the worse one correctly- from the inside with strips of cardstock and book binding glue. Inside, the kit is in excellent condition. It has never been started. All the parts have been inventoried 100% complete. The original bags are present but were open. The decals (stickers) are 'excellent' as are the instructions. The blue display cardboard is all present and in 'excellent' condition. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.
