Wright-Dayton Co 1/48 Grumman F4F -3 Wildcat Plywright Solid, PW-1 plastic model kit

1/48 PW-1 Wright-Dayton Co Grumman F4F -3 Wildcat Plywright Solid

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Very rare. From the very early 1940s. Wright-Dayton was located at Front & Second Strs, Dayton Ohio. The instructions state that this flying glider was 'designed by the chief engineer of the Wright-Dayton Company, who helped built and fly the original Wright Airplane." No small claim and not an idle one! Upon further investigation, the un-named chief engineer is James M.H. Jacobs. He filed the patent for this glider in 1937; he is also named in patents with Wilber Wright. Sure enough, he was an engineer who certainly worked closely with the Wright Brothers. This is a very nice, true-scale, deluxe (for the time) solid wood model of bread-and butter construction. Features 9 excellent, factory cut hardwood profiles for the bread-and-butter fuselage with dowel pin alignment, templates (on the instructions) for final sanding, very nice profile cut hardwood wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, die cut hardwood display stand, a factory sealed envelope of small parts, an excellent color insignia sheets with starts, wing walks, retracted wheels and gear doors, oil coolers, canopy with frames, tail wheel, side windows and stand name plate and excellent full size instructions with detail assembly drawings and excellent step-by-step instructions. Never started and complete with all parts and paperwork.
