Pioneer North American P-51 Mustang plastic model kit

Pioneer North American P-51 Mustang

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Rare kit from the mid 1940s. The scale is not given, but the wingspan is 7.5 inches. Features balsa fuselage, cardboard template, very thick die-cut cardstock wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, wheels and prop, full color insignia sheet, sandpaper and full size plans with instructions. Complete and never started. Pioneer Modelcraft Co. was based out of Brooklyn, New York. Other kits in the same general configuration included the F4F, Lockheed Hudson, P-40, P-51 (this kit), P-47, Corsair F4U, Hurricane, SBD Dauntless, Spitfire, Ju-87 Stuka, Me-109 and Japanese Zero. Thanks to Dusty Rhodes, we know that Enterprise purchased Pioneer in about 1949. At this time, they were able to enter both the balsa sheet and strip cutting ends of the business. Perhaps Pioneer had this equipment. Little else is known.
