ITC 1/175 Halibut SSGN 587 Cam-A-Matic Submarine - (Electric Powered Diving Motorized Regulus Sub), 3660-998 plastic model kit

1/175 3660-998 ITC Halibut SSGN 587 Cam-A-Matic Submarine - (Electric Powered Diving Motorized Regulus Sub)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

From 1960. This model is the zenith of the ITC Design and Engineering Team, and maybe of all operational plastic model kits. It is not only rare but is considered the most complicated operating model ever produced. The large 24.75 inch submarine sails from the power of a large electric motor driving twin geared propellers. It changes headings, dives, surfaces, and a Regulus II missile comes out of the hanger and launches...all automatically. The engineering on this kit is fantastic and a major break-through for its time. The model worked, and did work well, but was certainly not a toy for inexperienced model builders. The high price ($9.98) and difficulties that youngsters had with assembly and operation made for a short production run. The fact the ITC left the model business for good shortly after releasing the kit contributed to the scarcity as well. The boxtop grades 'good' with four solid original corners and excellent color. It would grade higher than 'good' but there is red spray paint on the right short side and a very small, fine amount near it on the box top. There is light to medium general wear as shown. Inside, the kit is in excellent condition and as new. It has never been started. All the parts that were in factory sealed bags are still factory sealed. The hull halves and battery holder were never sealed and are in 'new' condition. The blue display cardboard is all present and in 'excellent' condition. The decals and instructions are 'excellent' as well.
