Monogram 1/24 Midget Racer - The First Monogram Plastic Kit, P1 plastic model kit

1/24 P1 Monogram Midget Racer - The First Monogram Plastic Kit

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Rare first issue without decals and with early non-decal instructions. In the late 1940s/early 1950s, Monogram began to use injection molded details in the famous Speedee-Bilt and SuperKit aircraft models. The parts chosen for injection molding were generally difficult to carve from wood. From this experience, Monogram was ready to embark on all-plastic models. The first effort was kit number P-1 in 1954, the 1/24 scale Midget Racer. The box is the correct hardbox dated 1954. The advertising on the outside is unique and is used to promote this new type of model and the ease of assembly. The kit and sub-assemblies are pictured and named on the sides. This box grades 'excellent' and has wonderful color and gloss, solid original corners, no price tags or tape and no tears. The only wear is general scuffs. The box bottom grades 'near mint.' Inside, the kit is molded in the correct red acetate high-gloss plastic. The parts are still flexible and have very little of the typical acetate warping- so this was an unusually stable batch of acetate that was correctly molded. The instructions are correctly labeled P-1 and are near mint. The give-away that this is the true first edition is that the kit was issued without decals. The second issue has decals and modified instructions showing a new drawing with the decals on the model. The correct die-cut windshield is included as well. It has never been started and has been inventoried 100% complete. A great piece for the advanced collector.
