B370-75 Pyro Flying Cloud Clipper Ship

The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. Pyro did an very nice job of capturing the lines of this famous clipper, which was one of fifty designed and built by Donald McKay. The Flying Cloud set the record for the voyage from New York to San Francisco on her maiden voyage. The time, 89 days and 21 hours was only beat when she bettered this record by 7 hours. She was 235 feet long with a beam of 40 feet and 8 inches. There were over a million feet of oak in her hull. The Flying Cloud ended her days as a lumber boat between St. John, Newfoundland and London. In June of 1875 she was wrecked off the New Brunswick coast. It has been said that the ear of the clipper ship came to a close when they burned her hulk for the scrap metal that was inside.
