Aircraft 1/540 HMS Exeter - Royal Navy Heavy Cruiser plastic model kit

1/540 Aircraft HMS Exeter - Royal Navy Heavy Cruiser

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

Very rare kit from the late 1930s. Features a completely precarved hardwood hull that needs final sanding only. The quality of the hull is excellent. There are two sheets of thick and thin balsa printwood, wood stock as needed and the factory sand paper. It has never been started. NOTE: missing instructions but otherwise complete. Any side and overhead drawing could be used as an assembly guide as that is what Aircraft included with these kits. The box was graded 'fair-' because one short side flap is missing and the other short side flap is damaged. This model is rare in that it is from Gordon Christoph's 'Aircraft Model Company'. This company was founded in the early 1930s and the boxes state the company name simply as 'Aircraft'. Some ship kits were produced but they are hard to find. Jack Mair, a former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. Mair continued with the same logo and 1/48 scale and went on to make one of the rarest and valuable 1/48 scale wooden kits ever - the Maircraft DC-3. The company went out of business just as production began on the DC-3, which was in 1947.
