1115 Ideal Aeroplane & Supply SS City of Flint (EFC 1022 Design / 'Hog Islanders') Freighter/Steamship

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Rare ship model dated 1940. Contains the Ideal 'Premolded Hull' which is a completely formed, hollow hull made from a wood composite. The hull is in excellent condition. Also includes full size plans/instructions, wood stock and dowels as required and two sheets of printwood. The kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. The SS City of Flint was launched in 1919 as an EFC 1022 designed cargo freighter. She became famous as the first American ship captured by the Germans in WWII. Her first war experience was in picking up survivors from the British Steamer Athenia in September of 1939. In October of the same year, the City of Flint and her Great Britain bound cargo was captured by the German pocket battleship Deutschland (Lutzow). The story of the events after the capture and the Flint's eventually release is well worth reading.
