K4 Comet American's Cup Yacht 'Enterprise'

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

1930s or 1940s issue. Wooden kit of the 'Enterprise', which the instructions say 'For four succeeding years the Enterprise was America's winning entrant in the International Cup Races.' When built, the model measures 12 inches long and 15.5 inches high. Features laminated hull, four printwood sheets, nicely done cardstock 'planked' deck, mast and yard stock, cloth material for sails, sandpaper and full size plans. The plans include detailed instructions and blow-up drawings for details as well as sail outlines, hull templates, full rigging diagrams and more. The kit has never been started and is complete with all parts. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static ship, train and aircraft models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
