Joe Ott Spitfire - 45 inch Wingspan Flying Model, 4502 plastic model kit

4502 Joe Ott Spitfire - 45 inch Wingspan Flying Model

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

The 1930s were the classic age of the stick and tissue balsa models, and the Joe Ott kits were among the most famous. Loaded with deluxe features, the 'Flying Battle Plane' kits had large wingspans and the new 'Ott-O-Matic Formers' to make the kits 'Easier To Build'. This 45 inch wingspan Spitfire is from about 1943. This kit is rare due to the large size and price - the original Woolworth's tag is still on one short side and the kit costs $1.39 - a great deal at that time. The kit includes a very large full size plan sheet with drawings and general instructions, sheets of quality printwood, printed sheets of Ott-O-Matic formers, a 'hardware' packet - still in the original paper sack - with prop boss, main wheels, tail wheel and metal prop shaft, stripwood stock as required, clear window material, tissue paper, a color sheet with British markings and more, and a fold-out brochure produced by Joe Ott dated 1942 called 'Little Lessons in Flying'. The brochure includes heavily illustrated basic aerodynamics and on the back it has a list of currently available Joe Ott kits. This kit is 100% complete and has never been started.
