Monogram 1/24 Midget Racer - Kelloggs Cereal Premium Issue plastic model kit

1/24 Monogram Midget Racer - Kelloggs Cereal Premium Issue

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

In the late 1940s/early 1950s, Monogram began to use injection molded details in the famous Speedee-Bilt and SuperKit aircraft models. The parts were ones that were generally difficult to carve from wood. From this experience, Monogram was ready to embark on all-plastic models. The first effort is this kit, the Midget Racer in large 1/24 scale. The kit was marketed directly to hobby and toy shops and through a special Kellogg's promotion. With box tops from Pep, 40% Bran Flakes or Krumbles plus 50 cents, you could get the Monogram Midget Racer, 'Hot Rod' or Racing Hydroplane. This was a fairly good discount, as the normal price was 98 cents. The kit is in the original mailing box that it came in. Inside, the kit is molded in the early and correct red acetate. The kit has never been started and it is complete with all parts, unopened tube of glue, excellent instructions and the original 'krinkle' parts bag. The bag is brittle and has the usual cracks, but is included. The instructions are correct for this early issue and are in very good condition. The Kellogg's add is at the bottom of the instructions. Monogram did not include decals with the first issues of this kit - they did so on later issue. A great piece for the advanced collector.
