Airmodel 1/72 Mig-21 E-8A Prototype - Bagged, AM-099 plastic model kit

1/72 AM-099 Airmodel Mig-21 E-8A Prototype - Bagged

Multimedia Model Kit

The Mig-21F was a successful warplane, but it suffered from short range, weak armament and electronics and poor dogfight maneuverability. Mikoyan OKB attempted to improve the F with two prototypes - the E-8A and E-7. The E-7 was similar to the existing Mig-21, but the E-8A was radically different and was intended to solve all the shortcomings of the existing "F" variant. The result was a beautiful aircraft. The central air intake freed up the nose for electronics, while the lower fuselage allowed more internal fuel storage. Forward canards were to add to the dog fighting maneuverability. Why the E-8 did not work or was not built is not known. Very nicely done multimedia kit. The model contains resin parts and basic vac airframe parts. The vac parts are excellent and are better than many injection molded kits. Resin parts include struts, wheels, nose gear and wheel, seat, cockpit, gear doors, canards and many other misc parts. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.
