Megow Sikorsky S-43 'Baby Clipper' (OA-8/JRS-1) - 8 inch Wingspan Solid Wood Airplane Model

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Rare solid kit from the 1930s. This model is part of the extensive '8 Inch Wingspan' line of scale display models. The kit includes full-size plans/instructions, the original cement, the original silver paint in a corked glass bottle, turned wheels, fuselage balsa and printwood balsa for all other parts. The kit has not been started and is complete. The S-43 was the smaller version of the S-42 and known as the 'Baby Clipper. It was used by the US Army OA-8 and US Navy JRS-1. A small handful went to private owners in the 1930s, but Pan American World Airways used them for flights to Cuba and within Latin America. Reeve Aleutian Airways in Alaska operated two aircraft. Inter-Island Airways of Hawaii (later Hawaiian Airlines) bought three of the planes for Pan-Am and local Hawaiian island inter-island service. Only one commercial aircraft went overseas to serve with a Norwegian airline.
