This deluxe model is from the early 1970s. It is large scale and robustly designed for rubber or gas free flight; easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. Features traditional wood/tissue construction with all die cut parts, 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction and 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' construction, a very large and colorful insignia sheet for the box art aircraft, detailed full size plans, building instructions, wheels, hardware, tissue and propeller. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including insignia and plans. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Probably from the 1940s. Stick and tissue flying model kit to a constant 1/16 scale with very nice quality. Made by California Model Company out of Long Beach, CA USA. Kit uses rubber for power. Features required wooden parts, instructions and full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. From Bill Baker Jr - "California Model Company originated in Long Beach, Calif in the late 1940's or early 1950's. My grandparents, William (Bill) Loyal Baker and his wife, Ruth (Tripp) Baker were the founders. The company started out as primarily balsa based model aircraft but later, in the late 50's or early 60's, branched into the model RR craft kits and Cub Scout craft kits. They even had a balsa speed boat kit powered by a model airplane gas engine adapted to fit. When they retired, around 1968 or 1969, they sold the business and the "shop" in North Long Beach they built to house their business. I have many fond memories as a young child "working" with them in the shop, assembling kits. I have a few unbuilt kits today!"

For the advanced model collector and from 1940. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48 in the 1930s. Hawk kits were considered high quality and very complete for that time and often included metal or plastic details. and superb quality drawings for the true scale enthusiast. The side of this box shows photos of 4 other built-up Hawk aircraft kits and gives a rare look at the product line. The model features a 3D (three axis) cut fuselage, 2-D cut wings and tail features, turned and completely finished hardwood spinner & wheels, finished propeller, sandpaper, wooden stock as needed, complete insignia sheet and excellent, well-detailed plans that include many templates and painting instructions. There is even another large fold-out instruction sheet with heavily illustrated text instructions for how to carve and build a solid scale model aircraft. Even the original Hawk factory packing tissue is present. The model has not been started and is 100% complete with all parts and paperwork. Please note that this kit is simply called the "Heinkel Fighter." From what what can tell, this is a He-112B, with the three-piece bubble canopy and probably the V-10 with the big undernose radiator scoop.

However, the company was innovative as it quickly included injection molded accessories. This kit dates from 1946 and contains profile precarved fuselage, wings and tails, injection molded wheels, propeller, & machine guns, wooden stock as needed, metal seat, sandpaper and full size well-detailed plans that include numerous templates, detail drawings, full rigging information, a photo of the completed model and more. SALE!! Includes all four reproductions of 1930s wooden kits. There are three stick and tissue flying models and one solid scale model. All are never started and have the small parts still factory sealed while all other parts are inventoried complete. Includes all paperwork. On the flying Models, the Megow V-1A has a 12" wingspan, the Comet Miller Racer has a 10" wingspan and the Boeing P-26A has a 16" wingspan. The solid (non-flying) Megow Curtiss Condor has a 8" wingspan, 2D cut fuselage, completely carved and finished engine nacelles, printwood, wood stock and high quality replica plans of the original model, which is from 1933. Complete and never started. Scale Flight Model Company in Bloomington, Indiana, USA was dedicated to releasing authentic reproductions of the finest "Dime Scale" flying model (stick and tissue) kits, solid kits an even an occasional vehicle model from the 1930s/40s. Dime Scale models used to sell for a dime in the 1930's, hence the name. They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s.

Rare 1950 issue is very near to 1/72 scale. The model Features 2D factory cut fuselage & wing, a die-cut sheet of parts, fully finished wheels and excellent plans/instructions. NOTE: the fuselage has been slightly started. There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts & plans present. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers, such as Comet issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits.

A very rare kit from about 1941/42. This model is 'Identical to the one used in the Model Building Program of the US Office of Education sponsored by the US Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics' which was a program launched in 1941. During WWII the higher speed of aircraft made the traditional WW1 'recognition cards' nearly useless and 3D models were needed. The US Armed Forces looked to the general population to produce recognition models. While not fully successful due to irregular quality and supply, it quickly paved the way for superior injection molded recognition models. This kit features wood blocks, sheets and stock, glue, sandpaper, an excellent, very thick paper template, outline & gauge sheet as well as fold-out full size plans with aircraft history and detailed carving and building instructions. Never started and complete. Although misidentified, the "Sento Ki-001" is a single-engine, low wing monoplane (that is not a Zero). The large right end flap on the box has fallen off and is inside the box. The left one, with the name of the kit, is present. The box is only 'good-'.

This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is factory cut to about 70% complete, profile cut wings and tail, fully formed wheels and clear material for the windshield. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Very rare and from 1948. This is a completely prefabricated, balsa and hardwood super-stunt control line design by Leon Shulman. At that time it was capable of doing every possible maneuver that control line models could perform and some that could not be done, such as a loop and vertical 8's. It can literally be built in a few hours and features factory cut and carved, high-quality wooden parts, shaped and hollowed leading edges, tapered training edges, hardware, fully formed wire landing gear (or to be used as a take-off trolley that remained on the runway to improve performance), covering tissue and more. The full size plans include heavily illustrated step-by-step assembly as well as complete flying tips from the famous designer. NOTE: this kit has 'excellent' quality sub assembly as follows: bellcrank to elevator; upper & lower fuselage and hardwood reinforcements assembled. Horizontal stabilizer and elevator are very neatly sanded. There is no other assembly. The model has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork included. Please note that the covering tissue has bug damage. In 1948 Drone Diesel also produced and marketed the 'Dronette' Sport Flyer & Stunt Trainer and the 'Hot-Rock,' a National Open Stunt Champion in 1947. These model, with the 'Secret Weapon,' promoted 'Diesel At Its Best,' the Drone Diesel Engine with a Class B displacement of .297, bore of 21/32 and Stroke of 7/8". The compression ratio was whopping 18 to 1. A speed control and variable compression head were also available.

Very rare and from the mid 1930s to the early 1940s. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and Dwarfs were no exception, containing very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread (if required), metal and balsa stock as required and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. While the box has significant wear, the kit inside is still 'factory tissue sealed.' When the Cleveland workers packed each kit, they wrapped them in tissue that effectively made a seal which has not been disturbed. Whoever buys it will be the first one to see the contents since it was packed in the factory over 90 years ago. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. Extremely rare, highly prefabricated kit from post-war Japan. Most likely from the early 1960s. These kits were produced to complete in the saturated American market, and they distinguished themselves by the quality and amount of work already done. This large-scale model can be operated with B or C class engines and features a beautiful aluminum full cowl, pre-shaped and assembled landing metal gear struts with rubber tires & metal hubs, completed hand-soldered metal gas tank, clear vacuform canopy (still excellent and not yellowed), diecut hardwood fuselage bulkheads, horiztonal & vertical stabilizers, elevator & rudder, die-cut fuselage keels, metal hardware packet still factory sealed with a Eureka paper header, finished wood propeller, die-cut wing ribs, die-cut and notched hardwood wing spars, a very large number of other factory cut parts (both large and small), sheeting wood, full size plans, full color insignia in the original Eureka envelope and more. Never started and complete. Eureka Hobby made a large line of giant scale gas powered models; they were not inexpensive, which is what makes them very rare today. This Bearcat was $8 in the early 1960s. Other aircraft produced, along with the wingspans and price are as follows: F4U Corsair (31" $10), Me-109E (36" $8), FW-190 (36" $8 and 26" $5.95, AD-4 Skyraider (36" $8), AD-2 Skyraider (24.5" $4.95), L-17 Navion (33" $8), F-94C Starfire with an all metal body and wings for Tiger-Jet engine (31" and $19.95, DC-6B (73", 59" long, four tanks, aluminum cowls, shock absorbing gear, four props for $47.50 - I had one of these, it was an amazing kit), Super DC-3 (61" $29.95, Fairchild Packet Transport (56" $29.50), C-45 Twin Beech (45" $28), Military DC-3 or C-47 (48" $24.50), SA-16 Albatross (54" $25.95), P-2V4 Neptune (51" $21.50), Commando (62" $28), Mig-15 (all metal body and wing, designed for Tiger Jet engine, 36" $22.50), F-84E Thunderjet (37.5" for Dyna-Jet fully enclosed engine and has rear aluminum fuselage $22.50) and finally a B-29 - the line flagship. This model had a 7 foot wingspan, was 59" long, was entirely wood planked and had numerous special features - all for only $39.50. San Diego Model Shop was at least one of the US distributors for these models.
