Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Japanese Sub I-19 - With Large Display Base

$75

This is the 1969 issue in the 'Big A' logo hardbox. This large scale kit is almost 16 inches long when assembled and is an excellent model from Aurora's best efforts of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Aurora knew that most of their kits were outclassed, so in the mid and late 1960s they cut a new molds with much better detail - the I-19 was one of those. Includes a large wood-grained display base, full hull with propeller & rudders, detailed conning tower (or 'sail'), periscopes, cranes, detailed Glen Seaplane, deck guns and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals, flag sheet and instructions. The I-19 is famous for firing history's most successful torpedo spread. On September 14, 1942 off Guadalcanal, the I-19 was patrolling of the Solomons when she fired a 6 torpedo spread. Three hit and sank the US Carrier CV-7 WASP, and the remaining three exploded against the BB North Carolina and the destroyer O'Brien. The destroyer sank & the North Carolina had to be repaired at Pearl and did not enter service again until November 16, 1942. The I-19's Glen seaplane also flew night reconnaissance on February 23, 1942 over Pearl Harbor for the planned second attack by Emily flying boats on that base.

This is also a display base with a raised map of China showing the major cities. There is no assembly but NOTE: this is a bit of detail painting on many of the pieces. Nothing major and it's is only one coat. You could simply paint over it or remove it with spray oven or any other plastic-safe paint stripper. It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing (1) part, the hair holder on the back of the head. Otherwise complete with all other parts and paperwork. Aurora Chinese Mandarin, 1/8, 415-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Chinese Mandarin

$140

The Chinese Mandarin is one of the rarer and had a short production run. The kit features highly detailed outfit, necklace, hat, braided hair and a display base with a raised map of China and the location & names of the major cities. The kit has never been started. Aurora De Havilland Tiger Moth, 1/48, 110-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

De Havilland Tiger Moth

Aurora Hercules And The Lion - Adventure Series Figure Kit, 1/8, 481-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Hercules And The Lion - Adventure Series Figure Kit

$150

1965 issue of this very well detailed model that builds into an entire action scene. Includes the Herc himself (possibly Alan Steel), dagger, a complete lion, 3D display base and name plate. Herc is molded in a realistic (for that time) 'flesh' colored plastic while the lion is molded in a medium brown. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: in the photo, the box looks much better than the 'fair++' grade. But it is graded as such because there are small closed holes, a closed tear to the right of Herc's head, corner wear and edge wear on the left center. In the world of figure model kits, one even came close Aurora's extensive line. But when the interest started to decline, Aurora permanently retired the Hercules model & others. But they gave the part number '481' to the much more profitable Hunchback of Notre Dame when it came out in the 'Big A' square box.

The box still has the factory seal but there are several small, hard-to-spot flaws which include a 3/4" x 1/2" spot of missing seal at the bottom center and three very light (and difficult to see) short creases. Please note, this kit will only be shipped double-boxed and insured.

Aurora Douglas M-2 Mailplane - Western Air Express CAM Route, 1/48, 111-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Douglas M-2 Mailplane - Western Air Express CAM Route

$65

First issue dated 1957 with fantastic Jo Kotula artwork. This is a very well molded and detailed kit for that time and is molded in beautiful deep gloss burgundy and black plastic. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. This aircraft has a fascinating history. From the internet: The United States Post Office had been running the air mail service since 1918 mainly using variants of the de Havilland DH.4 biplane. In 1925, it decided to modernize and placed an order with Douglas for a replacement aircraft based on the Douglas O-2 observation biplane. The company modified an O-2 by covering over the forward cockpit to make a mail compartment and moving the pilot into what had been the observer's cockpit. The aircraft was designated the DAM-1 (Douglas Air-Mail-One) but this was soon shortened to M-1. The M-1 used the same Liberty engine as the DH.4, which was available in large numbers. Small modifications were made to the exhaust system to keep fumes away from the pilot and the design was considered a success, but was not ordered into production. When the Contract Air Mail (CAM) routes were introduced, the newly formed Western Air Express Company (later Western Airlines) ordered six mailplanes with the designation M-2. The main change from the M-1 was that the tunnel radiator was replaced with a frontal type. It also had the provision to carry a passenger instead of mail in the front cockpit. Just before Western Air Express introduced the aircraft into service (in April 1926 from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City), the Post Office ordered 50 aircraft designated M-3 for its major route network. The M-3 had only detailed differences from the M-2.
