AMT was founded in 1948 by West Gallogy Sr. in Troy, Michigan. Originally, the company was called Aluminum Model Toys, but quietly changed to AMT when injection plastic molding became viable in the late 1940s. AMT got its start creating dealer promotional model cars in 1:25 scale. Gallogy had connections with Ford so his models were shown exclusively in Ford dealerships. AMT grew to become the main supplier of promotional models to American car companies. In the 1960s the importance of the promotional models began to decline but at the same time modeling began to explode in popularity. AMT's kit sales increased accordingly. In the late 60s AMT released the California Hauler 359, a popular truck kit based on a Peterbuilt 359. In 1966 AMT got the rights to make Star Trek model kits. The 1966 Enterprise model is one of AMT's best selling kits.

Detailed kit of one of the first Advanced Early Warning radar aircraft for the Navy. Builds all three versions: Marines VMC-1 from the Korean War, British Royal Navy 849 Sq and US Navy VC-11 from the Korean War. US versions are from 1950 (Korean War) and Royal Navy version is Squadron 849, 1956. Features detailed interior, landing gear, wing mounted fuel tanks and 65 parts. The kit has never been started. It includes everything for a complete & unique wall diorama: color photo backdrop for the stadium and four injection-molded figures and wood-grained plastic frame & plastic attaching buttons. Includes five paint colors and brush. While a novel and great idea, this series did not sell and was quickly discontinued. The complete set included 'Brute Farce', 'Big Hit?', 'Threw'd Dude', 'Touchdown?', 'Aw, Chute!' and 'Cliff Hanger.'
