Pyro Monitor United States Ironclad, C258-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Rare early issue of the Monitor alone from the late 50s with artwork by AJ Rudisill. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Merrimac together. The model is 10 inches long when built, is full hull with prop and rudder detail, has a rotating turret and includes a display stand. Never started. Either inventoried 100% complete with all parts present or still factory bag sealed inside. With instructions. Although dated, the Pyro Monitor and Merrimac kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships. The Monitor was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Carl Goldberg Models Li'l Wizard - 21 inch Wingspan .049 U-Control For 52 Foot Lines, G5

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Unique model includes 'Fail Safe' mechanism designed by Carl Brack so the ship can be flown on 52 foot lines, even in the wind. Carl Golberg states on the box, "Hard to believe, but true, as proven by my own tests." Profile design features die-cut plywood and balsa parts, superb factory finished wing (with full airfoil), factory cut-to-shape blocks, completely formed steel landing gear struts and rubber wheels, hinge material, nylon engine mount, complete hardware packet (still sealed), decals, full building instructions, flying instructions and more. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing two parts, die cut wing fences (easily made, can be seen on box art on the outboard leading wing edge). Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions present. The hardware set is still factory sealed. Carl Goldberg was a gifted designer of model aircraft, and his career spanned the evolution of flying models. His designs and number of titles won in competition at the Nationals is legendary. His first competition was the 1928 Nationals, where he received honorable mention. By 1934 he won the indoor Nats and in 1935 he opened a Hobby Shop, among the first in the nation (the first one was probably opened by Cleveland Models Ed Packard). Awards came quickly. He wrote articles for Model Airplane News, and was Comet's top designer from 1939 till 1945. After Comet, he worked with Mike Schlesinger and Sid Axelrod on what eventually became Top-Flite Models. In 1955 he founded Carl Goldberg Models and released a still-popular line of scale, rubber, gas, glider and RC models. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Hudson Miniatures 1914 Stutz Bearcat Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Well detailed, large 1/16 scale kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels, grill, steering wheel, lights and other accessories, wooden and metal main parts and some die-cut cardstock parts as well. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. The instructions even warn that this kit will take more time than usual due to the 'tedious detail.' This kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.
