The M6A1 Seiran was a late war submarine based float plane. The new I-400 class contained a large, water tight hanger and this aircraft was designed specifically for that space. The wings and tail folded to fit but the aircraft could be assembled in 7 minutes by a trained crew. To aid in night assembly, the critical parts were painted with florescent paint. The first planned attack was the Panama Canal, but this was cancelled in favor of Ulithi Atoll anchorage. The war ended before the attack could take place.

This radical craft was designed to test the Chrysler XIV-2220-1 liquid-cooled inverted 'V-16' engine. Two P-47D airframes were set aside for modification by Republic at Evansville under subcontract to Chrysler. The airframe was redesigned from the firewall forward and under the belly from the nose to the radiator to a point aft of the rear gas tank. A GE CH5 Turbo Supercharger was installed in the lower rear fuselage. Final drive was through a 14 foot diameter Curtiss propeller. Many problems were encountered with the engine, so the aircraft did not fly till after the war in Europe on July 26th, 1945. Twenty-seven test flights were made including one at 30,000 ft that reached 490 mph.

When the Me-209 was dismissed as the 109s successor, design work began on the 309. It was intended to be a high speed, long range heavy attack fighter with an ejection seat and pressurized cockpit. Four were built, but the RLM never assigned any priority to the project. By that time, jets showed more promise and work was stopped. The kit is well molded with all recessed panel line detail and has optional parts so you can build any of the first three prototypes. Never started. The highly successful Ar-96 was an all metal aircraft designed by Walter Blume. It first flew in 1938 and quickly became the Luftwaffe's standard advanced trainer for the duration of WWII. The Ar-396 was a direct development of the Ar-96; the main difference was that it used less strategic materials. The Ar-396 A-1 was single-seat gunnery trainer that was powered by an Argus As 411 engine and built largely from wood. This model is the two seater version, which would appear to be the A-2 instrument trainer. Still factory sealed. Nicely molded model with recessed panel lines, good cockpit, crew, bomb load and more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.
