Dyna-Model Grumman F8F Bearcat - Wood and Metal Model Aircraft, 1/48

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

In the 'Golden Age of Aviation Modeling' (1930s and '40s), most modelers built the flying 'stick and tissue' type kits with rubber, CO2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited technology. Many manufacturer's kits consisted of blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardstock display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is rough carved to ~95% of final shape (not just profile cut) and all other parts are either profile (2D) or die cut. Includes color decals, full size high-quality plans and the crowning jewel, a box of finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started and has been inventoried complete with all parts and plans.

Strombecker Boeing B-29 Superfortress, 1/72, C-250

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Rare. From the 1930s through the 1950s Strombecker produced the world's finest highly prefabricated hardwood model kits. The B-29 is one of Strombecker's flagship models. Features completely carved to final shape fuselage, wings with airfoil, four engine nacelles, tail feathers, turrets, gun sighting blisters, wing flaps and more, four plastic propellers, tricycle landing gear with all gear doors, weighted nose, a very large, full color extensive decal sheet and sealed envelopes of glue & wood filler. Includes the excellent, large format detailed instructions and even the detailed B-29 booklet. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one part, nose weight. Otherwise includes all other parts and paperwork. The decals were once stuck to the instructions so there are a few small areas where instruction paper is still stuck to the decals. I would grade the decals as 'good.'

Strombecker Northrop P-61 Black Widow, C-33

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier manufacture of highly prefabricated hardwood models. All through the 1930s to the 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display model with an 11 inch wingspan. All wooden hardwood parts are completely precarved; usually only a quick sanding would finish them. The P-61 is one of the rarest of the WWII Strombeckers and features fuselage, wings, booms and tail feathers completely carved to the final shape, plastic propellers & detail parts, full landing gear, extensive color decals in amazing 'Excellent+' condition, glue and wood filler in sealed envelopes and sandpaper. Includes excellent large-format step-by-step instructions and numerous illustrations. Never started and complete. Even includes the mail order form for the official Strombecker badge.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Features a full hull, over 80 pieces, detailed deck fittings, sails and more. The Great Eastern (originally Leviathan) was the work of English Designer I.K. Brunel. In the 1850s there was a need for large ocean liners to carry the immigrant trade, but none existed. Shipping companies also wanted the interiors of ocean liners to look like hotels, but there simply no space. This ship was to solve that problem. She was launched in 1857 and five times bigger than any other ship of the day! The 22,500 ton Great Eastern was 693 feet long and carried 4000 passengers. Unfortunately, her career was one mishap after another until she laid the Trans-Atlantic cable.

The Eldorado Brougham four door hardtop (suicide doors) started as a dream car in the GM Motorama and made it to the production floor as the luxury car with "the greatest number of important technological advances ever included in a custom built automobile". The styling was revolutionary at the time. The car sported a large and powerful V-8 engine and air suspension. The interior was simply stunning, with upholstery combinations such as cashmere, nylon and leather in any number of patterns and styles and plenty of chrome trim. In the rear seat, there was a retractable armrest which contained a storage compartment fitted with a vanity, tissue dispenser, cigarette case and a large mirror. All these items, including custom perfume, were designed just for this car. At a price tag of $13,000 few were made but they are valuable classics today.

KP Skoda D.1 - (D-1), 1/72, 29

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Fine and cleanly molded model includes decals for one Czech Air Force and one Civil aircraft. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The D-1 has an interesting history. The Skoda Works Aircraft Division was created to build the first Czech metal fuselage aircraft, then to move to an all metal aircraft. Due to a lack of experience in this field, the famous French firm of Emile Dewoitine was contacted. Dewoitine had been developing a promising fighter called the D-12C-1. Skoda wished to build this aircraft under license, but the future of the D-12C-1 for the French Air Force was uncertain. Eventually the D-12 was abandoned for the D-19C-1, which resulted in the D-21C-1, which saw series production. An agreement was finally reached with Skoda to produce the D-12 and the first aircraft was completed in 1928. A further 25 were built by 1929. The design was very rugged but outclassed by more agile designs. Due to the high durability, they lead a very long service life, being fully retired in 1939.
