Pyro Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Oyster Boat 'Carrie Price', 1/60, 269-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$62

From the very early 1960s and an excellent kit for that time. Features full hull, optional position keel, optional position cabin and deck hatch if you wish to super-detail the insides, full deck fittings, two detailed small boats, railings and life rings, furled sails (as shown on box art) and an excellent un-retouched photograph of the finished model that serves as a rigging diagram. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The skipjack 'Carrie Price' is an exact replica of a typical small sailing vessel used along the Chesapeake Bay area to dredge for oysters. The center keel stabilizer could be pulled up for working in very shallow water. Until 1942 sail was the only power permitted for oyster dredging; after 1942 the state passed a law allowing power boats to be used. This lead to almost all the skipjacks being converted to power and having the main mast cut down. Although it's days are past, many yachtsmen restore and sail this beautiful small craft today. Pyro is long out of the plastic model business but is famous today for the esoteric collection of kits they produced. The seemed to care little about popularity but designed kits based on historical significance or local interest. The quality of the kits is generally high. Please the read the articles about Pyro Kit History and Pyro's founder, who was a pioneer in modern injection molding. Both are located on this website.

North Pacific North Pacific Sport'r 24 inch Wingspan Balsa Long Range Rubber Powered Airplane Model, D-129-1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$75

Rare; part of the scarce 'Deluxe Flying Model' series from North Pacific. North Pacific was famous for making the rubber powered Sleek Streak and Star Flyer which not only flew circles around the rubber/stick competition, but could be modified to achieve near competition performance. The glider line included the fantastic Stunt Flier, which for an 'out of the envelope' design, flew very, very well. North Pacific went all out with this new 'guaranteed to fly' cabin design - a big departure from the profile sticks. The kit features sheet balsa covering, reinforced with hi-impact plastic inside. Can be flown with a .010 motor also. The model has not been started. The parts and paperworkd are still sealed in the factory clear bag. The entire series consisted of the Bipe, Sport'r, Dust'r and Race'r. The Sport'r, Race'r and Dust'r were quoted as flying 1/8 of a mile and Bipe 1/10 of a mile. Detailed instructions are included for gas engine installation. The high price and very short issue has made all of these kits very rare.

Aurora Nieuport 11, 1/48, 101-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$32

Third issue with the original issue artwork still dated 1956; but actually this kit is from the early/mid 1960s. This is the final issue to retain the original Jim Cox artwork. In the first issue, there is a square Northern Lights logo in the lower left. In the second issue, it has been replaced with the first famous oval logo sunburst. In this issue, the post-'Famous Fighters' blue oval has been placed in the upper left, allowing us to the see the complete artwork. Molded in gloss dark olive green and black plastic. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box is intact but has stains and damage, so it is graded 'fair' and is not collectible. The decals are intact but have stains on the backing paper - the actual transfers are clear. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with "CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

Aurora Curtiss Hawk P-6E, 1/43, 116-98

Molded in gloss dark green and clear. The kit has never been started. Missing small clear windshield. Otherwise inventoried with all other other parts present including decals and instructions.
